Job summary

ISP Ipoh is seeking a qualified music and drama teacher to join our Creative and Performing Arts Department. You will deliver instrumental technique, scales, sight reading and music theory, and help prepare students for school-wide drama and musical performances.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s in Education or a teaching qualification, plus a degree in music (Applied Arts in Music, Music or related).

Job Description

Purpose of Role

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced music and drama teacher to join our dynamic teaching team to provide quality teaching and learning for our students. The music and drama teacher will be responsible forteaching instrumental techniques, scales, sight reading, and music theory. He/ She will also join a dynamic Creative and Performing Arts Department and will take a central role in preparing students for school-wide drama and musical performances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach music and drama skills to students including voice, tone, tempo and rhythm skills.
  • Train, rehearse and lead students in school and community musical programs.
  • Conduct music classes according IPC themes.
  • Develop and maintain an effective music educational program for students.
  • Schedule daily classes to instruct and rehearse within the assigned time.
  • Understand potentials and skills of each student and guide individual student according to their skills.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide feedback and assistance to improve their musical skills.
  • Maintain lesson plans and instructional materials for students.
  • Recommend maintenances and repairs for musical instruments when necessary.
  • Maintain student behavioural standards to ensure productive and disciplined environment during group rehearsals, practices, and performances.
  • Collaborate with school community to organise musical programs for civic functions and school productions.
  • Monitor students in and out of the classrooms.
  • Maintain safe and positive learning environment for students.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs, student activities and faculty committees.
  • Attend educational workshops, training and professional improvement programs to maintain professional competence.
  • Maintain student grading and attendance records.
  • Evaluate student progress and ensure that students complete daily assignments.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Possess at least a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Bachelor’s degree with a post graduate qualification in teaching
  • Possess either a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Classical Music or Batchelor of Contemporary Music
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience
  • Plays a musical instrument
  • Able to teach Music and Drama up to and including IGCSE, or a similar level curriculum
  • Patient, responsible and passionate about teaching
  • Computer literate with good interpersonal communication skills
  • A team player and flexible to meet the needs of the department
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
