A leading technology company in Penang, Malaysia, is looking for a Strategic Commodity Manager to manage suppliers and implement strategies for the Mechatronics commodity. This role demands a minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry, particularly in semiconductor equipment, alongside strong negotiation and strategic planning skills. The ideal candidate will lead a team to ensure material availability, coordinating with various stakeholders to maintain efficiency and drive forward company goals. A hybrid work model is available.
At Lam, as a Strategic Commodity Manager, you play a crucial role in managing industry suppliers. You’ll develop and implement commodity strategies, align development deliverables, benchmark suppliers, negotiate agreements, and resolve delivery, cost, and production challenges. Navigating a highly visible and dynamic environment, your strategic expertise in implementing initiatives will support commodity availability, quality, and cost to maintain Lam's reliability and competitive edge.
Individual represents the Mechatronics commodity at Lam Research. Mechatronics commodity involves mostly robots that are used to move wafers during wafer processing as well as spindles and controllers used in automation. Provides strategic plans for timely inventory control, planning and quality control of production materials. Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and material control systems to drive speed, streamline procedures, and implement solutions. Ensures for solid strategies to assure availability of materials in the supply chain as scheduled, and the maintenance of inventory at minimum acceptable levels. Responsible for sourcing decisions as well as coordinating global procurement efforts. Coordinates with finance/accounting on matters involving inventory, cost savings and cash flow management.
Leads commodity team for establishing strategic vision for the commodity space, then managing projects to active plans & objectives. This requires managing weekly collaborative meetings and ensuring all internal stakeholders are engaged and communication to higher management are in place & timely. Work with suppliers in making sure they have adequate capacity to support Lam demand as well as supply continuity risk management plans.
Manages several global and domestic integrators in the Mechatronics commodity supporting Etch & Deposition product lines.
Minimum Experience: 10 years industry experience. Familiarity with semiconductor equipment or high‑technology supply management practices, standards and organizations. Proven ability to gain partnerships and excel working and leading in a cross‑functional environment with new product introduction, manufacturing, quality and reliability engineers as well as procurement, finance, and product support. PowerPoint and presentation skills. Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or other technical fields, proficient in excel (pivot tables, macros, etc.). May require up to 15‑25% travel.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on‑site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On‑site Flex and Virtual Flex. “On‑site Flex” you’ll work 3+ days per week on‑site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. “Virtual Flex” you’ll work 1-2 days per week on‑site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
