Accountable for providing professional nursing care to patients within a hospital unit, adhering to hospital policies and nursing services principles, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality care practiced.
1. Adherence to nursing care vision, mission, goals,andobjectives, aligns with the scope of nursing services, and performs shift duties as assigned by the Unit Manager to ensurehigh-qualitycarerendered.
2. Notifies the unit manager of any changes in the situation that couldimpactthe standards of care.
3. Obtains and handovers a report of patient progress, ensuring all doctor’s orders are followed and notifyingofany incidents or problemsencountered.
4. Visit patients in the unit with team members to assess conditions, re-plannursing care, anddeterminenursing priorities based on patient needs and staff availability.
5. Providepersonalized,exceptional oncology careusing the nursing process approach, adhering to best practices and protocols, while providing emotional support and guidance to patients and families, navigating treatment complexities and potential outcomes with a commitment to holistic patient care.
6. Evaluate a patient’s physical and emotional health, medical history, and habits, conduct a thorough examination, and ensure their comfort with treatment, while also providing comprehensive education about treatment options and disease specificities.
7. Administers chemotherapy as directed, monitors patient progress, and adheres to all policies and procedures for the safe handling of cytotoxic agents.
8. Conductnursing rounds on patients,accompanyingdoctors while doing rounds, andassistingin procedures as needed.
9. Executing the doctor’s orders, coordinating with team members related tothe patient’streatment, and fostering effective communication with all disciplines, patients, and relatives to ensure patient satisfaction.
10. Maintainaccuratepatient documentation, promptly report abnormal findings to doctors or consultants, and empower patients and caregivers through personalized expert guidance and advocacy services.
11. Provide clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication with patients, ensuring their understanding of their condition, treatment options,side- effects of treatment, self-care activities, grieving,and care plancomprehensively.
12. Supportpatients in regaining andmaintaininghealth,motivatethem towards treatment,providedirect care,participatein therapy,offercounseling, andeducatetheirfamilies.
13. Establishand executeaction plans toassistclients in achieving theirobjectives, building a strong patient-patient bond, andassistingpatients and their families in adapting to various stages of illness, hospitalization, convalescence, and rehabilitation.
14. Collaborate with the unit manager for administration, setting care standards, and fulfilling duties in the absence of the manager,assistingin clinical guidance, supervision, patient care, safety, infection control, and professional behavior.
15. Coordinates with other services,non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and external agencies for palliative care, hospice care, and home care, and organizes education talks for individuals or groups of patients.
16. Participates in unit meetings, dialogue sessions, and hospital activities.
17. Charge accurately, incorporating charges for equipment and consumable items into the patient’s charges and verifying their completeness.
18. Inspect and document the supply of sterile packs to ensure the integrity of the packaging andmaintainan adequate supply of unit stock fromcentral sterile supply services.

2. Executes continuous professional development through annual competency evaluations and privileges every 3 years, and is proficient in performingcalculations,chemoportneedle insertion and removal,and medication calculations.
3. Collaborates with the unit managertooptimizestaff, supply, and serviceutilizationfor efficient resource allocation and coordination with consultants for effective bed management.
4. Participate and contribute to the development and maintenance of the nursing process, ensuring effective patient care and documentation.
5. Participates in research initiatives and advocates for quality improvement through evidence-based practice.
1. Participates in the review and revision of nursing policies, procedures, and work instructions,providingvaluable insights, promoting best practices foroptimalpatient care, and continuously improving the process.
2. Inspect thePsychotropicdrugs with thepreviousshift’s nurse in charge and adhere to hospital policies and procedures in medication care, custody, and administration.
3. Checks daily and audits resuscitation trolley periodically as scheduled.
4. Promotes infection prevention and control by ensuring staff follow protocols, implementing surveillance activities, anddemonstratingcommitment through personal involvementincluding storage and administration of blood and drugs, radiation, static electricity, fire, and unit cleaning.
5. Maintain confidentiality ofthepatient’s personal and medical history
1. Operates andmaintainsspecialized equipment in a unit, guidingnew staffon the use of it andmaintainingaccuraterecords.
2. Collaborate with the unit manager tomaintainequipment, medical supplies, consumable items, and drugs, ensuring proper functioning, service according to theplanned preventative maintenance(PPM)schedule, and adequate stock and linen supply.
3. Notify biomedical personnel of faulty equipment andassistinmaintaininginstruments and equipment through proper cleaning, handling, disinfection, and usage.
4. Participate in a quarterly stock count with the finance staff.
1. Participate in and support activities aimed at the continuous improvement of nursing services, including quality assurance, infection control, and fire and safety programs.
2. Conduct thorough investigations, root cause analyses,appropriate responseactions, andtimelycompletion of incident reports within the stipulatedtimeframe.
3. Collaborate with unit manager to collect and evaluate clinical and administrative datasuch as Cancer Registry submission,andparticipatein hospital-wide surveys like MSQH, JCI, IMS, etc.for continuous quality improvement efforts.
4. Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, which mandate reasonable work care, employer cooperation, protective equipment use, patient safety goals, World Alliance recommendations, patient and family rights policies, standard people practice,and5S activities.
Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
