Job summary

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to support cardiac catheterization lab operations. The role involves preparing the lab, assisting with procedures, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.

You will collaborate with the Unit Manager, cardiologists, and ward staff to optimize workflow, educate patients and families, and uphold care standards across the unit. Clinical excellence and compassionate communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to nursing care vision, mission, goals and perform shift duties as assigned by the Unit Manager to ensure high-quality care.
• Notify the unit manager of any changes that could impact care standards.
• Collaborate with the Unit Manager to ensure smooth operation of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and CSSS daily.
• Collaborate with ward staff to ensure patients arrive on time for procedures and optimize lab utilization.
• Escort patients into catheterization laboratory rooms and recovery areas, and record cases in the laboratory logbook.
• Prepare the catheterization lab for daily procedures by checking equipment, validating reports, checking consent, and organizing trolleys and standby items.
• Adhere to Patient Safety Goals; identify patients accurately, prepare them for procedures, and refer to the cardiologist as needed.
• Collaborate with the Cardiologist and other doctors to discuss procedure approaches and patient care preferences.
• Provide comprehensive cardiac care, including patient education and counseling, and work with the healthcare team throughout the care continuum.
• Participate in patient and family health education, ward meetings and hospital activities, with clear, compassionate communication.
• Assist in administration, set care standards, and cover duties in the absence of the Unit Manager; manage patient charges and verify inventories.
• Inspect and document sterile pack supplies to ensure packaging integrity and maintain unit stock from CSSS.

Job description

1. Adherence to nursing care vision, mission, goals, and objectives, aligns with the scope of nursing services and performs shift duties as assigned by the Unit Manager to ensure high-quality care rendered.
2. Notifies the unit manager of any changes in the situation that could impact the standards of care.
3. Collaborate with the Unit Manager in ensuring the smooth operation of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and central sterile supply services (CSSS) daily.
4. Collaborate with ward staff to ensure patients arrive at the cardiac catheterization laboratory room on time, thereby optimizing the utilization of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
5. Accompany patients into the cardiac catheterization laboratory rooms and recovery room safely before they are sent to the ward/critical care services, and record all cases in the cardiac catheterization laboratory record book.
6. Provide the catheterization laboratory room ready for use by checking and preparing the items following the list of cardiac procedures for the day, receiving patients, evaluating the condition of the patient, and comparing it with the report, checking consent, performing the checklist, and preparing trolleys, equipment, and standby items for use.
7. Adherence to Patient Safety Goals; Save Surgery Save Live involves accurately identifying patients, preparing them for procedures, checking patients with staff, noting abnormalities, and referring patients to the cardiologist if necessary.
8. Collaborate with the Cardiologist and other relevant doctors/consultants to discuss procedure approaches and patient care preferences in the unit/ward.
9. Provides comprehensive cardiac care, including patient education and counseling, works closely with other healthcare professionals, and is responsible for patient care before, during, and after treatment.
10. Participates in patient and family health education in the ward/critical care services, unit meetings, dialogue sessions, hospital activities, and other specialized technical assistance services.
11. Provide clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication with patients, ensuring their understanding of their condition, treatment options, and care plan comprehensively.
12. Collaborate with the unit manager in administration, setting care standards, and fulfilling duties in the absence of the unit manager, while also carrying out assigned tasks and providing feedback.
13. Charge accurately, incorporating charges for equipment and consumable items into the patient's charges and verifying their completeness.
14. Inspect and document the supply of sterile packs to ensure the integrity of the packaging and maintain an adequate supply of unit stock from central sterile supply services.
