Qualifications

  • Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certifications in BLS, ACLS, ATLS; special skills required.
  • Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Microsoft Office literacy.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills; critical thinking and problem-solving; willingness to work on schedule hours, shift, weekends, public holidays, emergency.

General Description: Accountable for providing professional nursing care to patients within a hospital unit, adhering to hospital policies and nursing services principles, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality care practiced.

Organization and Management
  • Adhere to nursing care vision, mission, goals and objectives; align with scope of nursing services.
  • Perform shift duties as assigned by Unit Manager to ensure high-quality care.
  • Notify Unit Manager of any changes impacting standards of care.
  • Provide high-quality care in urgent situations, manage ambulance transfers, ensure patient safety, ensure continuity of care during transitions.
  • Conduct patient triaging, detailed examinations, documentation, informing attending physician, prioritizing care.
  • Collaborate with doctors and team members for life‑threatening conditions, communicate with relevant professionals.
  • Perform phlebotomy, IV infusions, administer medications, dressing changes, assist with simple surgical procedures.
  • Assist with patient admission/discharge, scheduling specialist appointments, handling death cases respectfully, stable transfer to mortuary.
  • Obtain and handover patient progress reports; ensure doctor's orders followed before shift changes, notify incidents/problems.
  • Visit patients with team members to assess, re‑plan care, determine priorities based on needs and staff availability.
  • Provide personalized, holistic patient care using nursing process, maintain accurate documentation.
  • Provide emotional support, accompany doctors during rounds, assist in procedures as needed.
  • Execute doctor's orders, coordinate with team members, foster effective communication with all disciplines, patients, relatives for patient satisfaction.
  • Actively participate in health education of patients/families, ward unit meetings, dialogue sessions, hospital activities.
  • Provide clear, compassionate, culturally sensitive communication to ensure patient's understanding of condition, treatment options, care plan.
  • Collaborate with Unit Manager in administration, set care standards, carry out duties in Manager’s absence, provide feedback.
  • Charge accurately, incorporate equipment and consumables into patient charges, verify completeness.
  • Inspect and document sterile packs, ensure integrity, maintain adequate stock from CSSS.
Human Resource and Development
  • Maintain professional growth; keep up to date with mandatory learning hours.
  • Execute continuous professional development through annual competency evaluations and privileges every 3 years; proficient in cannulations and medication calculations.
  • Participate and contribute to teaching program of the unit / ward, orientation of new staff to ward routine.
  • Supervise staff including Assistant Nurses, Midwives, Care Assistants, student nurses; achieve clinical attachment objectives.
  • Collaborate with Unit Manager to evaluate staff performance, provide constructive feedback, optimize staff, supply, service utilization.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of nursing process, ensuring effective patient care and documentation.
  • Participate in research initiatives, advocate for quality improvement through evidence‑based practice.
Policies and Procedures
  • Participate in review and revision of nursing policies, procedures, work instructions, promote best practices, continuous improvement.
  • Inspect DDA drugs with previous shift nurse in charge; adhere to hospital policies on medication care, custody, administration.
  • Check daily and audit resuscitation trolley periodically as scheduled.
  • Promote infection prevention and control; ensure staff follow protocols, implement surveillance, personal involvement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient personal and medical history.
Facilities and Equipment
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment; guide new staff on use; maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with Unit Manager to maintain equipment, medical supplies, consumables, drugs per PPM schedule and adequate stock and linen supply.
  • Notify biomedical personnel of faulty equipment; assist in cleaning, handling, disinfection, usage.
  • Participate in quarterly stock count with finance staff.
Safety and Quality Improvement Activities
  • Participate and support activities aimed at continuous improvement: quality assurance, infection control, fire and safety programs.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, root cause analyses, appropriate response actions, timely incident reports.
  • Collaborate with Unit Manager to collect and evaluate clinical and administrative data, participate in hospital-wide surveys (MSQH, JCI, IMS, etc.).
  • Participate in Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative certification, promote exclusive breastfeeding.
  • Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Act & Regulations 1994: reasonable work care, employer cooperation, protective equipment use, patient safety goals, World Alliance recommendations, patient/family rights, standard people practice, 5S activities.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Skills & Competencies: Certifications in BLS, ACLS, ATLS; special skills required.
  • Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Microsoft Office literacy.
