Job summary

KPJ Healthcare Berhad in Malaysia is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver holistic nursing care aligned with our Vision, Mission and Objectives. The role requires following unit procedures, handing over reports, and ensuring doctors’ orders are carried out during shift changes.

You will perform regular patient rounds, document care properly, assist doctors during ward rounds and procedures, and communicate effectively with patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required.
  • Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia; MS Office literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and carry out nursing care in line with Vision, Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives of the Nursing Services.
  • Work shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit’s operational hours.
  • Inform Unit Manager of changes affecting standards of care.
  • Receive and handover patient reports; ensure doctors’ orders are carried out before shift change and on taking over a case.
  • Visit every patient with the team on taking over duties; assess condition and replan nursing care as needed.
  • Provide individualized holistic care using the Nursing Process with contemporaneous documentation.
  • Report abnormal findings and progress to doctors/consultants.
  • Conduct regular nursing rounds to assess patient needs and provide emotional support.
  • Follow ward rounds and assist doctors with procedures as required.
  • Carry out doctors’ orders and delegate tasks to team members.
  • Liaise with doctors/consultants regarding patient care in the unit/ward.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and other disciplines.
  • Attend unit meetings and hospital activities; participate in health education for patients and families.
  • Assist Unit Manager in administration when acting as shift nurse in charge.
  • Act on behalf of Unit Manager to set standards and expectations for quality of care.
  • Carry out duties of Unit Manager in their absence as directed.
  • Ensure accurate charging of equipment and consumables; verify completeness.
  • Check and document supply of sterile packs and packaging integrity weekly.
  • Maintain adequate unit stock and report on supplies.

Job description


  1. 1. Understands and carries out the nursing care in line with Vision and Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives that suit the scope of the Nursing Services.

  2. 2.Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit’s Operational Hours.

  3. 3. Informs Unit Manager when change occurs in circumstances which affect standards of care.

  4. 4. Receives and handover report of patient, knows the case in detail: Progress of the patient. Ensures all doctors’ orders are carried out before shift change and on taking over case. Any incident or problems encountered.

  5. 5. Visits every patient in the unit together with the team members on taking over of duties to: Assess condition of patient, compare with report. Re-plan nursing care according to assessment or evaluation Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care according to patient’s needs and staff availability

  6. 6. Provides individualized holistic care to patients using the Nursing Process approach with proper nursing documentation in patients’ files and that it is contemporaneous.

  7. 6. Reports all abnormal findings and progress of patients to the relevant doctors / consultants.

  8. 7. Conducts regular nursing rounds on all patients in the ward to ascertain for other additional needs; talk to patient/family members as an integral part of providing emotional support.

  9. 8. Follows doctors / consultants ward round and assists them in doing procedures when required.

  10. 9. Carries out orders of doctors / consultants pertaining to care of patients and delegates to other team members according to their assignments.

  11. 10. Liaises and discusses with the relevant doctors / consultants with regards to care of patients in the unit / ward.

  12. 11. Establishes and develops effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives, to achieve optimal patient’ satisfaction.

  13. 12. Attends and participates in unit meetings, dialogue sessions and hospital’s activities.

  14. 13. Participates in the health education of patients and their families in the ward.

  15. 14. Assists the Unit Manager in the administration of the unit / wards when assigned as shift nurse in charge.

  16. 15. Acts on behalf of the Unit Manager in setting standards and expectations in the quality of care.

  17. 16. Carries out duties and responsibilities of the Unit Manager in her absence as directed.

  18. 17. Ensure charges of equipment/consumable items into patient’s charges accordingly and checked for completeness.

  19. 18. Responsible for checking and documenting supply of sterile packs from CSSS and weekly checking for integrity of packaging.

  20. 19. Maintains and documents adequate supply of unit stock

  21. 20. Carries out assignments scheduled by Unit Manager and provide feedback.


Education: Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.


Skills & Competencies: Possess certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS Special skills are required. Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Microsoft office literacy.
