Direct Procurement – Sourcing Engineer – Mechanical/Hardware Job Description
As a successful candidate, you will partner with design and manufacturing partners to innovate and deliver quality parts on time at cost. You will be a member of a mechanical engineering team that:
- Partner with Operations/Product Teams to achieve metrics in assurance of components supply to meet printer’s shipments & quality
- Optimizes and continuously improves delivery, quality, and cost
- Qualify tooling and parts that meet design specifications and functionality
- Co-develops solutions with R&D Proposes and implements DFx solutions with R&D to achieve best cost at Day 1
- Creates commodity strategies and technical processes development roadmaps to meet NPIs needs
- Selects, develops, manages the sourcing of the parts to enable parts delivery to our manufacturing partners
Frequent/daily travel to manufacturing partner (Flex PTP) and supplier’s base particularly in Johor Baru area. The job location for the successful applicant must be based in Malaysia (Flex close to PTP and Johor Baru).
Desired Experiences
- Hands‑on experiences (>5 years) in molding fabrication processes in quality management, molding process and secondary process
- Plastic injection molds design and plastic parts material (resin) selection.
- Experience in design of metrology fixtures.
- Other relevant skillsets include metal fabrication processes in hard tooling design, progressive tooling, soft/combo tooling, stamping processes, welding/soldering processes, extrusion, casting and secondary operations in chemical surface treatment and coating processes.
- Excellent application knowledge in statistical process control, DOE, GD&T, tolerance analysis and 2D/3D CAD systems.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and executing projects across multi‑functional groups and including suppliers.
- Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility techniques, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Tolerance Analysis.
- Demonstrated experiences in managing and collaborating with Suppliers to achieve results in tooling deliverables and enabling cost competitiveness, assurance of parts supply to meet fluctuating demands and quality deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- In‑depth knowledge of plastic technology in production quality management, mold design, plastic materials and fixturing, and/or in‑depth experiences with manufacturing processes, examples in metal forming technology and tooling design.
- Demonstrated analytic and empirical problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.
- Aptitude to work collaboratively, both within and outside one’s own work group.
