This role offers a unique opportunity to actively contribute to energy access in Malaysia. You’ll gain hands‑on experience working on real‑world off‑grid energy projects, helping to design and implement solutions that make a tangible difference.
This is not a typical solar industry job. You must really want to do this work—because it will take you off‑grid, into the field, and into communities where energy access is needed for equitable development.
What You’ll Do
- Manages and supervises the onsite installation, testing, and commissioning of solar power systems to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality implementation.
- Post installation, lead the troubleshooting, and maintenance of off‑grid energy systems in participation with the local communities
- Assist in designing, testing, and optimizing renewable energy systems.
- Conduct site visits to assess energy needs and infrastructure suitability.
- Analyse system performance data to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Engage with local communities to communicate ongoing implementation plans, to seek their acceptance, to iterate, adjust based on on the ground realities.
- Provide training and technical support for local communities ensuring long‑term sustainability.
What We’re Looking For
- Someone who wants to specialise in off‑grid energy solutions and is motivated to contribute directly to rural electrification in Malaysia
- Must have hands‑on experience implementing a solar or energy project; experience in a rural setting is a strong plus.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of solar PV systems, microgrids, and energy storage
- Work experience in designing and constructing PV systems (preferably with experience in hybrid/off‑grid systems) is an added bonus
- Comfortable with fieldwork in rural areas and hands‑on problem‑solving.
- Able to think on your feet to deal with the unexpected and an ability to adapt to real‑world challenges.
- Strong inter‑personal skills to foster genuine connections with communities we work with
- Excellent communications skills with stakeholders, from technical partners to rural communities in both English and Bahasa Malaysia
