About the Role

As a Software Engineer II, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining services and features that directly impact our users. You’ll work as part of a squad alongside senior engineers, product managers, and designers, contributing to everything from backend services and APIs to mobile and web integrations—depending on your stack.

This is an ideal role for someone with a strong engineering foundation who’s ready to take on bigger ownership and grow toward a Senior Engineer or Specialist track.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Technical Domain & Engineering Excellence
    • Design, develop, and deliver solutions for well-defined components and services.
    • Apply sound technical design and architectural practices, ensuring security, performance, and scalability.
    • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using modern best practices (TDD, CI/CD).
    • Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and the adoption of new technologies.
  2. Execution & Operational Excellence
    • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum teams, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
    • Provide task-level estimates and proactively flag potential blockers.
    • Maintain focus on delivering quality outcomes by incorporating testing, documentation, and best coding practices into everyday work.
    • Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and Product teams to ensure smooth delivery to production environments.
  3. Organizational Building & Collaboration
    • Be a strong team player, collaborating across functions and building trusted relationships.
    • Share knowledge openly through documentation, mentorship, and internal sharing sessions.
    • Contribute to internal knowledge management practices, creating a learning and growth-driven environment.
    • Embody AirAsia MOVE’s culture of continuous learning, openness, and customer focus.
    • Experiment with emerging technologies and introduce improvements to tools, processes, and systems.
    • Participate in internal initiatives to drive engineering excellence, DevOps improvements, and operational automation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficient in backend development using Java (Spring Boot) and Python. Familiar with front end development technologies such as React.js is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of Git. Branching strategies, merging strategies and best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Data Structures & Algorithms, problem-solving aptitude.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges associated with operating large-scale production systems with experience in continuous integration, test automation, and monitoring.
  • Strong grasp of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins, Maven, Gradle) and Git best practices.
  • Experience in building scalable, highly available, and secure applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with application monitoring tools (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic).
  • Exposure to Agile development, cloud cost optimization, and security best practices.
  • Experience with performance testing, load testing, and monitoring at scale.
