Job summary

Lam Research Malaysia is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support pilot production, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume factories. You will oversee planning, development, and maintenance of methods, processes, and operations to tackle technical and production challenges.

You will help optimize costs, quality, and efficiency while supporting 24-hour operations on a rotating 12-hour shift, with hybrid and on-site work options available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electro-mechanical assemblies, manufacturing processes, or production environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling and CAD/PLM/PDM systems.
  • Willing to work a 24-hour rotating shift schedule (12-hour shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot product, process, tooling, fixture, and assembly issues during manufacturing operations.
  • Perform root cause investigations using 8D and RCCA, and implement STCA and LTCA.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, product quality, cycle time, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide disposition and technical assessment for rejected, defective, or non-conforming materials and components.
  • Review designs and manufacturing processes to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product quality.
  • Develop and share Best Known Methods with production teams to improve build quality and operator capability.
  • Analyze manufacturing and process data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support 24-hour manufacturing operations through a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

The group you’ll be a part of

The Manufacturing Engineering team is part of Lam Manufacturing Malaysia Operations, reporting into Global Operations. This function will partner with the other Operations team in Malaysia such as Manufacturing, Quality, Order Fulfilment, Logistics to deliver Operations Excellence, driving high quality, productivity and cost-effective performance in the safest environment.

The impact you’ll make

Join Lam as a Manufacturing Engineer where you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the new product pilot production factory, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume manufacturing production factory. Using your knowledge of technology and engineering principles you will oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations. You'll tackle technical, quality, and production challenges. Your expertise optimizing manufacturing costs and standards helps shape Lam's commitment to innovation and efficiency in manufacturing.

In this role, you will directly contribute to resolve assembly process issues supporting one of the 24x7 shifts.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot product, process, tooling, fixture, and assembly issues during manufacturing operations and drive timely resolution.
  • Perform root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and RCCA, and implement Short-Term Corrective Actions (STCA) and Long-Term Corrective Actions (LTCA).
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, product quality, cycle time, and operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide disposition and technical assessment for rejected, defective, or non-conforming materials and components.
  • Review designs and manufacturing processes to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product quality.
  • Develop and share Best Known Methods (BKM) with production teams to improve build quality, troubleshooting effectiveness, and operator capability.
  • Analyze manufacturing and process data to identify trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support 24-hour manufacturing operations through a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; OR an advanced degree with no prior professional experience; OR equivalent experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electro-mechanical assemblies, manufacturing processes, or production environments.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly operations, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of 8D, RCCA, and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T requirements.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling and engineering systems such as CAD, PLM, or PDM.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Change Management processes.
  • Understanding of Operation Method Sheets (OMS), process planning, and Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to resolving production issues.
  • Willing and able to work on a 24-hour rotating shift schedule (12-hour shifts).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of semiconductor equipment, capital equipment, or related manufacturing industries.
  • Experience or exposure to LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, statistical analysis, SPC, and production data analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of Python for data analysis, automation, or process improvement applications.
  • Effective English communication skills and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fresh graduates with strong academic achievements and final-year projects related to process improvement, manufacturing optimization, troubleshooting, or root cause analysis are encouraged to apply.
