Division overview

The PlayStation Studios: Creative team is an award winning, global internal creative agency within PlayStation Studios. We endeavour to build a working environment where we can flourish and create industry leading work. Structured around 2 teams; Brand & Strategy and the Creative Studio, comprising of four core disciplines; Design & illustration, UI/UX, Motion & 3D, Film and Video. We deliver projects in collaboration with our game development and marketing/PR teams.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior User Researcher to join our internal research team in Malaysia studio. This role will be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering impactful user research to shape the future of our games.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with development teams to identify research needs and define plans.
  • Conduct usability tests, analyze findings, and present clear insights.
  • Support process improvements and research planning.
  • Mentor junior researchers and champion user advocacy.
  • Communicate findings across departments and influence design outcomes.

Requirements

  • Background in HCI, Agile and Waterfall, Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, or any related fields.
  • Minimum 4 years in user research, with user test moderation and coordination experience, SWOT Analysis, Competitor Landscape Analysis, UIUX Heuristics experience.
  • Master’s/Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Passion for games is advantageous.
  • Native English proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Multilingual (Chinese/Japanese) is a plus.
  • Proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator across teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proactive in staying current with industry trends.
  • Able to zoom in (to achieve working level goals) and out (to understand high level strategy) effectively.
  • Independently motivated.
  • Creative with problem solving.
  • High agency and urgency.
  • High comprehension skills.
  • Willing to adapt to both Low and High-Power Index environments.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with statistical analysis.
  • Understanding of live service products and ongoing improvement cycles.
  • UX strategy or design experience.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Strong storytelling and presentation skills.
  • Knowledgeable of current industry trends, stay up to date on competitive products and best practices.
