Job summary

Celestica, Inc. in Penang is seeking a Senior Optical Design Engineer to lead system design for optical components in switch platforms. You will collect customer requirements, define product specs, and select key optical components.

The role covers validation, testing, and collaboration with manufacturing to establish optical tests, debug optical/electrical/firmware issues, and support bring-up across development and production teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in Science/Engineering (Optical, Physics, Laser, etc.) or closely related.
• 5+ years in optical design, validation and testing; switches experience preferred.
• Knowledge of coherent optics and line systems is desirable.
• Familiarity with laser sources, DSPs, CDRs, TIAs, and EDFA components.
• Experience building optical test stations and debugging optical hardware.

Detailed Description

Job Title: Senior Optical Design engineer

• Work on system design for optical related products in switch platforms.
• Communicate with Customer, collect requirement and make product Spec.
• Key Optical component selection and link budget calculation.
• Define validation and testing of optical components in design stage.
• Work with factory and define key optical manufacturing tests and criteria.
• Support bring up and debug activities related to the optical component including electrical, optical, and firmware issues.
• Work closely with both development team and manufacture teams.

Requirements

• 1. Bachelor or Master in Science/Engineering (Optical, Physics, Laser, etc.) or experience in closely related technologies.
• 2. More than five years of experience in optical design, validation and testing; Prefer candidates with experience with network switches and testing network switches
• 3. Knowledge and experience with coherent optics and line systems preferred
• 4. Knowledge of key optical components including laser sources, DSPs, CDRs, TIAs, EDFA, ROADM,MUX/DEMUX etc.
• 5. Experience designing and building optical test stations and experience with DCAs, CDRs, OSAs, optical switches, VOAs, MUX/DEMUX, power meters, etc.
• 7. Experience in electrical and optical hardware debugging. Knowledge of potential failure modes for optical components.
• 8. Experience both in manufacturing and NPI design
• 9. Good communication skills in English

Physical Demands

• Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
• Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
• Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
• Occasional travel may be required.
