Job summary

Emerald Clinical Trials in Malaysia seeks a Senior Project Finance Manager to oversee project finances across the lifecycle, collaborating with Project Managers and Operations to ensure precise, compliant reporting.

You will lead forecasts, revenue recognition, budgeting and profitability analyses, while guiding the Project Finance Analysts team and driving process improvements with cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting or related discipline.
• Experience in project finance, financial analysis, or commercial finance in a project-based or clinical research environment.
• Strong understanding of project financial management, including forecasting, revenue recognition, budgeting, accruals, and profitability analysis.
• Knowledge of project contracts, customer relationship management, and financial processes across the project lifecycle.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and propose improvements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across cross-functional teams.
• High attention to detail and organizational ability in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support project financial management throughout the project lifecycle, from handover to closeout, ensuring contractual and financial compliance.
• Partner with Project Managers to prepare forecasts, monitor revenue recognition, and analyze forecast-to-actual performance.
• Coordinate month-end activities: revenue journals, accruals, invoicing, investigator payments, labor allocation, and pass-through expenses.
• Monitor subcontractor costs, contractor hours, billing milestones, FX impacts, and project profitability for accurate reporting.
• Review financial performance, revenue trends, accounts receivable aging, and billing status with variance analysis and recommendations.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities, escalate concerns, and support corrective actions; provide support for sponsor queries, audits, and reporting.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Project Operations and external stakeholders to improve processes and outcomes.

About The Role

The Senior Project Finance Manager also works with the organisation’s finance and operational staff. The Senior Project Finance Manager provides project financial management throughout the project life cycle from business development to project closure. The Senior Project Finance Manager also supports in business improvements, metrics oversight and managing the Project Finance Analysts team.

Your Responsibilities

• Support project financial management throughout the project lifecycle, from handover to closeout, ensuring compliance with contractual and financial requirements.
• Partner with Project Managers and Project Leads to prepare project forecasts, monitor revenue recognition, and analyze forecast-to-actual performance.
• Coordinate month-end financial activities, including revenue journals, accruals, customer invoicing, investigator payments, labor allocation, and pass-through expense management.
• Monitor subcontractor costs, contractor hours, billing milestones, foreign exchange impacts, and project profitability to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Review project financial performance, revenue trends, accounts receivable aging, and billing status, providing variance analysis and actionable recommendations.
• Identify financial risks, scope change opportunities, and performance issues, escalating concerns and supporting corrective actions where required.Provide project finance support for sponsor queries, audits, collections, and financial reporting while participating in regular project review meetings.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Project Operations, and external stakeholders to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and project outcomes.

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Experience in project finance, financial analysis, or commercial finance, preferably within a project-based or clinical research environment.
• Strong understanding of project financial management, including forecasting, revenue recognition, budgeting, accruals, and profitability analysis.
• Knowledge of project contracts, customer relationship management, and financial processes across the project lifecycle.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, resolve issues, and recommend process improvements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional and matrix organizations.
• High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with the ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver high-quality results.
