Job summary

Western Digital is hiring a Senior Engineer, Process Development & Sustaining in Penang to lead the development, optimization, and sustaining of HDD manufacturing processes. The role requires strong chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering foundations and offers cross-functional collaboration with R&D and process teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science with industry exposure.
• Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
• 2–5 years of process/manufacturing experience in a related sector.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new manufacturing processes or significantly improve existing ones for HDD production.
• Conduct DOE to characterize process windows, identify CPPs, and optimize outputs.
• Evaluate and qualify new chemicals, materials, and process consumables for manufacturing.
• Develop process recipes, control plans, and SOPs for consistent production.
• Translate R&D lab-scale processes into robust, scalable manufacturing processes.
• Own sustaining engineering for assigned process modules to keep processes in control.
