Job summary

Sandisk is seeking a Mechanical Engineering professional to join our advanced inspection team for high-volume semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. You will lead qualification and optimization of inspection recipes using AOI, AXI/X-ray, SPI, and backend vision systems, ensuring accurate detection and optimized yields.

As a senior contributor, you will analyze data, apply DOE/GR&R/SPC, and mentor technicians while coordinating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust inspection

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 4 years in semiconductor/electronics high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience in visual inspection processes, inspection programming, or inspection program management.
• Ability to interpret product specifications and assess inspection requirements.
• Experience analyzing data to support process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Own inspection equipment performance and improvements.
• Work with AOI, AXI/X-ray, SPI, and backend vision systems.
• Develop, qualify, optimize, and govern inspection recipes.
• Reduce false calls, manage defect sensitivity, yield, and escapes.
• Apply DOE, GR&R, SPC, FMEA, DMAIC and data analysis.
• Provide cross-functional leadership and mentoring.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspection equipment ownership and performance improvement
• AOI, AXI/X-ray, SPI, and Backend vision inspection experience
• Recipe development, qualification, optimization, and governance
• False-call reduction, defect sensitivity, yield, and escape-risk management
• DOE, GR&R, SPC, FMEA, 8D, DMAIC, and data analysis
• Automation, Industry 4.0, AI-assisted inspection, and reduced manual dependency
• Cross-functional leadership, supplier coordination, training, and technical mentoring

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, SMT, PCB assembly, storage product manufacturing, or other high-volume manufacturing environments
• Experience in visual inspection processes, inspection programming, or inspection program management would be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of or experience in qualification against product specifications.
• Ability to interpret product specifications and assess mechanical and visual inspection requirements.
• Experience analyzing data to support process evaluation and improvement.

Preferred

• Hands-on experience with AOI, AXI/X-ray, SPI, or backend vision inspection systems in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing.
• Experience developing, qualifying, and optimizing inspection recipes to improve defect detection and reduce false calls.
• Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI), equipment qualification, and the transfer of inspection programmes to production.
• Familiarity with machine vision, image processing, AI-assisted inspection, or manufacturing automation.
• Experience collaborating with equipment suppliers on capability validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Lean Six Sigma certification or practical experience delivering structured improvement projects.

Skills

• Inspection programming and troubleshooting: Ability to develop and optimise inspection recipes and resolve recipe- and equipment-related issues.
• Defect analysis: Ability to interpret product specifications and translate defect acceptance criteria into effective inspection settings.
• Data analysis and validation: Proficiency in statistical analysis using JMP, Minitab, or Excel, with the ability to apply design of experiments (DOE), gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and statistical process control (SPC).
• Structured problem-solving: Ability to apply root-cause analysis, 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC to resolve process and inspection issues.
• Project management: Ability to plan and manage qualification and improvement activities, prioritise tasks, and meet agreed timelines.
• Communication and technical leadership: Ability to coordinate cross-functional activities, communicate technical findings clearly, and provide training and technical guidance to engineers and technicians.
