Wood is seeking to recruit a Senior Pipe Stress Engineer to join its team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With extensive global experience in delivering engineering projects for greenfield and brownfield modification works, Wood is committed to applying its world‑class systems and practices to this assignment. The successful candidate will be part of the Piping Engineering team, contributing to the execution of upcoming projects.

  • Ensures piping systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable international codes, client specifications, and offshore operational requirements under all operating, installation, and environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

Pipe Stress Analysis and Design

  • Perform detailed pipe stress analysis for upstream offshore/ onshore piping systems using industry-standard software (e.g. CAESAR II).
  • Analyze piping systems for:
    • Sustained, operating, and occasional loads
    • Thermal expansion and displacement stresses
    • Wind, wave, seismic, and blast loads
    • Slug flow, vibration, and dynamic effects
  • Define stress critical lines and establish analysis philosophy for projects.
  • Evaluate piping flexibility and recommend design improvements where required.
  • Familiarity with PDMS / E3D / SP3D models for layout reviews.
  • Develop pipe support concepts including:
    • Rigid supports, guides, line stops, spring supports, snubbers
    • Offshore-specific supports (shoe supports, trunnions, clamps)
    • Specify and calculate pipe support loads for structural interface.
  • Coordinate with Structural Engineering for support design and load transfer.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards such as:
    • ASME B31.3 / B31.8
    • ASME Section VIII
    • Client engineering specifications and project design criteria
  • Review stress results and ensure allowable limits are satisfied for all load cases.

Interdisciplinary Coordination and interface with others

  • Interface with Process, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Safety disciplines and others.
  • Support procurement by preparing datasheets, specifications and reviewing vendor documents and technical bids related to piping materials and equipment.
  • Participate in relevant meeting and discussions such as model reviews (3D Model Reviews - resolve clashes), support HAZID, HAZOP, design safety reviews and PEER reviews.
  • Liaise and interact with other disciplines/ project team to ensure overall project goals are met and advise management of variations in a timely manner
  • Review vendor drawings and stress calculations for packaged equipment and skids.
  • Provide stress input for piping connected to pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
  • Respond to relevant technical queries, deviations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Support fabrication, installation, hook-up, and commissioning activities.
  • Guide and mentor junior piping engineers and designers.
  • Support Lead engineer by reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by team members and provide input on project planning, workload estimation, and scheduling activities.

Qualifications
  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 years’ experience in pipe stress engineering and must be related to the upstream offshore/ onshore oil and gas industry (Preferably in Greenfield and Brownfield Modification/ Rejuvenation works) - Minimum of 2 years working in a multi - discipline team environment
  • Advanced proficiency in pipe stress software CAESAR II (mandatory).
  • Strong exposure to EPC project execution, from FEED through detailed engineering and construction, is an advantage.
  • Experience with offshore platforms, FPSOs, or subsea tie-ins is highly desirable.
  • Member of a recognized institution and preferably registered as a Professional Engineer / Chartered Engineer
  • Conversant with relevant international standards and Codes or Practice
