Overview

The Senior Manager, Quality (based in the manufacturing plant at Johor Bahru) will oversee quality operations. This role plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and monitoring quality control programs. This position is responsible for recommending improvements to methods, procedures, and standards based on data analysis to enhance quality and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. In this role, the incumbent will combine deep technical expertise in modern quality engineering practices with strong leadership and mentorship capabilities to build a high performing team. The incumbent is a natural collaborator who collaborates cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, relevant project teams, etc to create robust testing frameworks, processes, and automation strategies, etc that align with both business objectives and industry best practices. The position is more than an operational position, it's a strategic leadership role that contribute, to influence and drive meaningful change at both the site and global level to drive operational excellence.


Roles and Responsibilities


  • Quality Management & Compliance: Define and continuously refine quality management policy, standards, frameworks, and tools to drive efficient and effective quality management practices including but not limited to the development and implementation of robust inspection, testing and evaluation practices of products and equipment.

  • Oversee and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) ensuring compliance and success certification with ISO 9001, 14001, etc not limited to the manufacturing plants but also in the region with regular update to policy, standard, etc to reflect regulatory changes and industry best practices.

  • Serve as the lead representative for customer audits and third-party certifications, ensuring sites meet or exceed quality expectations.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for quality performance, driving corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) where necessary.

  • Lead regular internal and external audits on product processes, products, ensuring compliance and continuous process improvement.

  • Oversee and ensure the effective management of customer complaints, field returns, and warranty claims, utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, and FMEA.

  • Supervise and investigate quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret quality data to identify trends and patterns, and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure product quality from development through mass production.

  • Drive Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize processes, reduce costs, and eliminate waste.

  • Lead the planning process to meet operational goals, including forecasting, capacity planning, and resource allocation.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of high performing quality assurance and planning professionals.

  • Design and provide training offerings to production line employees on quality control procedures and best practices.

  • Foster a collaborative work environment that emphasizes accountability and teamwork.

  • Ensure proper training and development programs are in place to enhance staff competencies.

  • Lead, develop and implement programs/initiatives to foster a culture of quality ownership.

  • Participate in cross-site quality standardization initiatives to ensure best practices across different sites.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of supplier quality management programs, conducting audits and ensuring corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop long-term quality strategies, ensuring sustainable operational excellence.


New Product Introduction (NPI) & Supplier Quality Management


  • Oversee Quality Engineering for NPI, ensuring robust validation processes for new product launches.

  • Participate and lead the development and implementation of supplier quality management programs, conducting audits and ensuring corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure product quality from development through mass production.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial).

  • Min. 10 years relevant experience in Quality Management, with at least 5 years in a regional or leadership role in a manufacturing engineering environment, preferably in electronics industries.

  • ISO 9001, 14001 Certified Auditor with extensive knowledge of external audit, quality management, and risk management principles.

  • Experience in leading and conducting the design, implementation, and continual improvement of ISO-compliant QMS (e.g., ISO 9001) in the region and subsidiaries.

  • Deep understanding of quality systems (8D, FMEA, PPAP, etc.).

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Able to work in diverse multi-level, cross-divisional and multi-cultural environments with strong leadership, project management, cross-functional collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to thrive under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight timelines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite.
