Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager – Tax Accounting and Compliance to lead and manage the Group’s monthly tax accounting and reporting processes, ensuring adequacy, compliance, and timely delivery of tax‑related financial information for a listed group of companies.
The ideal candidate brings in-depth knowledge of tax accounting reporting as required by accounting GAAP (Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards ("MFRS") and International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS")) in accordance with tax regulations, proficiency in SAP, and the ability to collaborate across finance and tax teams.
Tax Accounting
- Lead the Group’s monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisioning process in accordance with the relevant tax regulations and accounting GAAP, ensuring timely and accurate recognition of current and deferred taxes.
- Analyse temporary differences between accounting and tax treatments to determine deferred tax assets and liabilities, assess recoverability, and ensure proper disclosure in the financial statements.
- Reconcile tax balances (e.g., income tax payable, deferred tax assets/liabilities, VAT/SST/GST accounts) to the general ledger on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and review tax disclosures and supporting schedules for statutory financial statements, quarterly Bursa Malaysia announcements, management reports, and group consolidation packs.
- Monitor effective tax rate (ETR) and prepare analysis explaining key movements, including tax adjustments, non‑deductible items, and one‑off transactions.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews by providing supporting documentation, tax workings, and explanations of key tax positions.
- Ensure compliance with internal reporting deadlines and group reporting requirements, including submission of quarterly and annual tax reporting templates to Group Finance or Head Office.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trail for all tax‑related transactions, reconciliations, and computations to support tax filings and financial statement disclosures.
- Monitor tax regulation changes and assess their impact on accounting and reporting.
- Monitor and coordinate tax accounting and compliance processes across offsite entities with their own local finance teams.
Tax Compliance
- Oversee all aspects of tax compliance for corporate tax and indirect tax for the Group, managing the Group’s external tax advisors and reviewing tax computations and tax returns, ensuring timely submission of all tax returns.
- Review responses prepared by external tax advisors in relation to tax audits and dispute resolution matters across different jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with local finance team on tax audits and dispute resolution.
- Foster and manage relationships with tax authorities and relevant government agencies in the region.
- Adherence to tax governance, quality standards and cost‑effectiveness.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and evaluate impact to the Group and advise on tax implications.
Other Responsibilities
- Drive process improvements for tax reporting efficiency.
- Support strategic tax planning initiatives and contribute to cross‑functional projects.
- Staff development and supervision.
- Undertake ad‑hoc tasks as and when required.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance.
- Professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in tax accounting or financial reporting. Experience in a listed company or multinational environment is an advantage.
- Exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems is beneficial.
- Solid understanding of tax accounting principles and local tax regulations.
- Familiarity with MFRS/IFRS reporting standards.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Able to work independently and manage deadlines effectively.
- Willingness to lead and mentor junior team members.
- Experience in handling tax audits or disputes (added advantage).
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment.
