Senior Manager, Legal
The Senior Manager, Legal is responsible for providing strategic and proactive legal support to the business units across HLA and HLMT. The role ensures that the organization’s operations are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Functional
- Provide accurate and effective legal advice and assistance to internal clients including all business unit, divisions or department of the Company to safeguard the Company's interests.
- Assist Head of Legal to attend all meetings, discussions, and negotiations with internal clients as well as with external parties as the case may be pertaining to the subject matter assigned as well as preparation of the minutes of meeting.
- Identify legal risks and provide legal protection and risk management advice to Management.
- Draft, review, advise and negotiate documentation for business transactions, and to assist and support various business activities including and not limited to contracts related to insurance, property, finance, employment and to assist in corporate exercises, as the case may be.
- Liaise with, manage and monitor external solicitors’ performance including compilation of solicitors’ monthly report for circulation to management and/or reporting to the respective committee or Board of Directors, as the case may be.
- Formulate relevant policies, procedures, processes, guidelines, or manuals on the management of legal risks and/or the management of the Legal Department's processes, as the case may be.
- Assist Head of Legal with contract drafting/vetting of all relevant documents assigned including and not limited to contracts related to insurance, property, finance, employment and to assist in corporate exercises, as the case may be.
- Take accountability for driving results with and through others, ensuring achievement is in line with the mission of the Legal Department's function.
- Assist the Head of Legal on all matters related to the Legal Division as assigned from time to time.
- Ensure compliance to policies, guidelines, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the Management.
Managerial
- Guide and mentor junior staff within the team.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments and stakeholders.
Organizational
- Effective liaison with all business units across the organization on legal matters and provides necessary inputs where required.
- Adept at using technology to enhance legal and compliance functions.
Jobholder Requirements
Education/Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) and related experience.
- Qualified advocate & solicitor in Malaysia.
Experience/Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of legal experience in the financial or professional services industries with proven ability to build a high performing business lead by strong client relationships and high performing teams.
- Relevant exposure or experience in legal matters relating to insurance matters would be advantageous, but not necessary.
- Strategic and organizational agility, excellent execution track record, analytical, negotiation, communication, teamwork and influencing skills.
- Drives change through strategic and innovative thinking.
