A leading company in Oil & Gas is seeking a legal professional to handle contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and dispute management. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience, an LL.B (Hons), and strong skills in legal drafting and advisory. Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is essential, with Mandarin as an added advantage.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for Oil & Gas and Construction projects, including EPC, EPCC, PMC, drilling, fabrication, supply, consultancy, subcontracting, and JV agreements.
Provide legal input during bidding, tendering, and project execution phases to protect the company’s interests.
Support project teams with contract interpretation, claims preparation, and variation order negotiations.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including but not limited to:
Petroleum Development Act, Occupational Safety & Health (OSHA), Environmental Quality Act, CIDB Act, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
Provide strategic advice on dispute avoidance and resolution, including contract claims, project disputes, and regulatory actions.
Manage and coordinate with external counsel on litigation, adjudication, arbitration, or other legal proceedings.
Assist in drafting legal notices, letters of demand, and settlement agreements.
Support the company secretarial team on corporate governance, board matters, and statutory compliance.
Review and advise on shareholder agreements, corporate resolutions, M&A transactions, and group restructuring.
Maintain a legal risk register and update internal stakeholders on legal developments and potential exposure areas.
LL.B (Hons) from a recognized university and admitted to the Malaysian Bar (or equivalent qualification).
Minimum 7 years of post-qualification experience, preferably a mix of law firm and in-house experience in Oil & Gas and/or Construction.
Strong experience in contract negotiation, legal drafting, and project advisory across both industries.
Good understanding of project delivery methods (e.g., EPCC, design & build, turnkey) and commercial risk allocation.
Strong command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Mandarin will be an added advantage, especially for dealing with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders or reviewing bilingual contracts.
High attention to detail, commercial awareness, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with FIDIC, PAM, and standard Oil & Gas contract templates.
Experience in international contract negotiation and cross-border legal issues.
Strong stakeholder management and ability to engage with project teams, finance, procurement, and top management.
