Position: Senior Lecturer – Special Needs Education

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Lecturer in Special Needs Education to join our Faculty of Social Sciences. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inclusive education, curriculum development, and educational research. This role involves teaching, supervising, research, and contributing to academic leadership in the area of special needs education.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning

Deliver high-quality lectures and seminars in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Special Needs Education and related fields. Develop inclusive and innovative learning materials that reflect current pedagogical best practices.

Supervision & Student Support

Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and theses. Provide academic mentoring and support to help students meet their learning objectives, particularly those focused on inclusion and special education.

Assessment & Feedback

Design, conduct, and grade both formative and summative assessments aligned with intended learning outcomes. Provide clear, constructive feedback to support student growth.

Curriculum Development & Programme Improvement

Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of Special Needs Education curricula. Monitor student outcomes and implement continuous improvements to programme quality.

Research & Scholarship

Engage in independent and collaborative research in Special Needs Education, inclusive practices, or related disciplines. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and pursue external research funding where applicable.

Academic Leadership & Service

Take an active role in departmental planning, academic committees, and the administration of teaching programmes. Contribute to the strategic development of the School and Faculty.

Partnership & Community Engagement

Build strong relationships with schools, special education providers, NGOs, and relevant professional bodies. Promote university-community partnerships that advance inclusive education.

Other Responsibilities

Undertake additional duties as required by the Dean or Head of Department to support the mission and operations of the Faculty and University.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • PhD in Special Needs Education, Inclusive Education, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of relevant teaching experience at the tertiary level.
  • Proven record of excellence in teaching, academic leadership, and educational innovation.
  • Strong track record of research output, with publications in reputable journals.
  • Deep understanding of inclusive education principles, policies, and classroom practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience in curriculum design for inclusive and special needs education.
  • Prior involvement in community outreach or partnerships with special education institutions.
  • Familiarity with educational policies and practices related to disability, accessibility, and inclusion.
