Job description

At BJAK, we operate with speed, ownership, and a clear mission: to make financial services more accessible, affordable, and impactful. As our Senior Human Resource Manager (Operations & Payroll), you’ll lead the HR team in building scalable people processes, managing daily HR operations, and driving initiatives that strengthen employee experience, performance, and culture.

This role is ideal for someone ready to step up from an HR generalist or specialist position into leadership as it is combining operational excellence with strategic exposure in a high-growth, startup environment.

Why This Role Matters

The Senior Human Resource Manager (Operations & Payroll) ensures HR operations run smoothly while supporting senior leaders in delivering strategic initiatives. You’ll balance hands‑on execution with managerial oversight, helping BJAK build a high‑performing, engaged, and compliant workforce.

Key Responsibilities
  • HR Operations & Compliance
    • Oversee day‑to‑day HR operations across departments and outlets, including onboarding, confirmations, leave management, payroll coordination, and exit processes.
    • Ensure full compliance with employment laws, statutory requirements (EPF, SOCSO, income tax, etc.), and company policies.
    • Maintain and continuously improve HR systems, documentation, and workflows.
    • Provide HR support to managers on daily HR‑related issues to ensure efficiency and adherence to policy.

  • Payroll Management
    • Supervise the end‑to‑end payroll process for all employees, ensuring accurate and timely disbursements.
    • Resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure proper statutory contributions and filings.
    • Work with Finance to align payroll data with budget and cost tracking.

  • Industrial Relations (IR) & Employee Relations
    • Handle grievances, disciplinary actions, and misconduct investigations with fairness and legal compliance.
    • Represent the company in IR‑related matters, including conciliations or other legal proceedings when required.
    • Promote a positive employee relations climate and ensure consistent application of company policies across all levels.

  • Talent Acquisition & Development
    • Support recruitment for multiple roles, including screening, interviewing, and coordination with hiring managers.
    • Lead in designing and implementing training, upskilling, and career development programs.

  • Performance, Culture & Engagement
    • Guide managers through performance reviews, probation assessments, and disciplinary procedures.
    • Drive employee engagement activities such as townhalls, recognition programs, and surveys.
    • Champion BJAK’s values and culture through consistent communication and behavior.

  • HR Reporting & Analytics
    • Track and report key HR metrics such as headcount, turnover, absenteeism, and payroll costs.
    • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve HR efficiency and employee experience.

You’ll Thrive Here If You…
  • Enjoy hands‑on HR work and want exposure to strategic decision‑making.
  • Thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment with shifting priorities.
  • Value accountability, openness, and speed over bureaucracy.
  • Are detail‑oriented yet capable of thinking big‑picture.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience in operations, employee relations, and recruitment.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices in Malaysia or regional markets.
  • Experience managing payroll and statutory compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust across teams.
  • Experience leading or mentoring junior HR team members is a plus.
  • Proficiency in HR systems, analytics, and reporting.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and eager to grow into a senior HR leadership role.
What You’ll Get
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and impact.
  • Direct exposure to strategic HR leadership and business operations.
  • Fast‑track opportunity into future HR leadership roles.
  • A high‑performance, no‑politics culture built on speed, ownership, and clarity.
  • The chance to shape HR foundations in one of Southeast Asia’s fastest‑growing fintech platforms.

If you’re looking to grow into a strong HR leader while making a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
