Our client is a well known leading data information provider in Malaysia and currently looking for a Senior General Manager, Data & AI. The Senior General Manager, Data & AI is a senior leadership role responsible for defining and executing the enterprise-wide data and AI strategy, ensuring that data and AI are leveraged as core assets to drive business growth, innovation, and operational excellence.
The role will lead Data Enrichment, Data Engineering, Data Management, Data Operations, Data Governance business units and AI initiatives, ensuring the organization has a trusted, scalable, and intelligent data ecosystem. Beyond technical oversight, this role will play a transformational leadership role, identifying future data needs, defining the data acquisition strategy and embedding AI into our products, services, and internal operations, while also serving as a senior stakeholder with regulators, clients, and industry partners.
This is a pivotal leadership role as the credit bureau strengthens its position as the trusted data authority and embraces AI-driven innovation for the future of financial services.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the enterprise data and AI strategy, aligned with corporate priorities and business growth objectives.
- Act as a key advisor to the Corporate Leadership Team on opportunities to leverage data and AI for new products, revenue streams, and operational efficiencies.
- Drive a culture of responsible data use and AI adoption, balancing innovation with governance and ethical standards.
- Collaborate with Sales, Product and Data Analytics teams to obtain customer feedback and identify business needs in terms of new data sources to support development of new products and services.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive data enrichment roadmap and data acquisition strategies.
- Craft the proposition for data submission, identify, establish and maintain relationship and lead negotiations with critical data sources.
Enterprise Data Engineering & Architecture
- Lead the design and build of a modern enterprise-wide data lake/warehouse covering data ingestion, data cleansing and data aggregation, serving as the backbone for advanced analytics and AI.
- Ensure data pipelines and data extractions are automated, scalable, and secure, enabling fast and trusted access for analytics, product development, and client delivery including workflow visualization and dashboarding with business intelligence (BI) for reporting purposes.
- Partner with IT and Product Development to ensure the platform enables AI-ready data environments.
Data Governance
- Establish and champion enterprise data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with BNM, PDPA, ISO standards, and other relevant regulations.
- Oversee data privacy, security, lineage, and stewardship, embedding strong governance while enabling innovation; working closely with Chief Cybersecurity & Risk Officer (CCRO) and Business Compliance (BC).
- Lead engagement with internal stakeholders, regulators, industry bodies, and ecosystem partners on data governance and responsible AI practices.
- Act as the external face of the company’s data and AI leadership, representing the bureau with regulators, industry forums, and strategic partners.
- Drive AI adoption roadmap across the enterprise, working closely with Chief Cybersecurity & Risk Officer (CCRO) to ensure safe usage.
- Drive AI adoption across the enterprise, identifying high-impact use cases to enhance products, customer solutions, and internal operations.
- Collaborate with Product and Analytics teams to integrate AI/ML models into bureau services, enabling smarter credit insights, fraud detection, and customer intelligence.
- Partner with internal functions (Operations, Risk, Sales, HR, Finance) to deploy AI for process automation, predictive analytics, efficiency gains and continuous compliance to internal policies.
- Champion the use of ethical, explainable AI, ensuring transparency and trust in AI-driven decisions.
Data Operations & Enablement
- Est ablish a best-in-class data operations framework for ingestion, quality monitoring, and delivery.
- Build automated data quality dashboards and SLA tracking to guarantee timely and accurate data.
- Enable seamless data and AI service delivery for clients, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
- Lead, grow, and inspire a multidisciplinary team spanning data engineers, governance specialists, AI/ML engineers, and data operations professionals.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with business, technology, analytics, and commercial teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, AI/ML, or related disciplines.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in data engineering, governance, or enterprise data leadership, with proven exposure to AI/ML projects.
- Demonstrated success in driving enterprise-scale data and AI transformation initiatives, ideally in financial services, fintech, or large-scale data organizations.
- Experience engaging with regulators, senior executives, and industry bodies on data and AI-related matters.
- Strong expertise in modern data platforms and AI/ML technologies (cloud-native, big data, model development, MLOps).
- Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI practices.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into data & AI strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
- Familiarity with advanced analytics, NLP, computer vision, and AI-driven automation is an advantage.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align data and AI initiatives to commercial outcomes.
- Exceptional executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Visionary leadership with a hands‑on ability to drive execution and results.
- Displays strong presentation skills, including the ability to effectively deliver information internally and externally at all levels.
