Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. seeks a Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer (Dry Systems) to own end‑to‑end mechanical utility systems including CDA, PVAC, exhaust, HVAC, and related instrumentation.
The role emphasizes integration with BMS, predictive maintenance, and energy‑efficient operation within a semiconductor environment. The incumbent will lead design through commissioning and hand‑over to operations, manage OPEX and CAPEX planning, and drive improvements in reliability, safety, and
As the designated System Owner, the incumbent holds end-to-end technical accountability for the following mechanical utility systems across their full lifecycle — build, construction, commissioning, and operation:
Compressed Dry Air (CDA): oil-free air compressors, heat-regenerative desiccant dryers, filtration trains, receivers, and distribution loops meeting ISO 8573 purity standards for particles, dew point, and oil.
Process Vacuum (PVAC): vacuum pump packages, variable-speed skids, vacuum headers, tanks and point-of-use control.
Process Exhaust: General exhaust (GEX), wet exhaust (WEX) fan systems, scrubber systems, ductwork, dampers, and monitoring.
HVAC / Air Conditioning: make-up air units (MAU), dry cooling coil (DCC), computer room air conditioning (CRAC), air handling units (AHU), fan filter unit (FFU), fan coil unit (FCU) and comfort-cooling systems supporting office, cleanroom-support, and general areas.
Associated instrumentation, control loops, and integration into the Building Management System (BMS).
Shows readiness and capability to incorporate AI-powered tools into everyday engineering tasks such as predictive maintenance, energy management, and data-driven optimization of mechanical utility systems. This supports Micron's AI transformation and smart-manufacturing objectives.
Develop and review the foundational plans, load calculations, and system sizing for CDA, PVAC, exhaust, and HVAC systems in accordance with Micron global standards and applicable codes.
Define equipment specifications, redundancy approach, and turndown strategy for compressors, dryers, vacuum pumps, and fans.
Review and challenge consultant build deliverables: P&IDs, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and layout for maintainability and future expansion.
Review contractor submittals, method statements, and material approvals to confirm alignment with Micron global standards and applicable engineering standards.
Support technical bid evaluation and equipment selection.
Ensure the build incorporates energy efficiency, maintainability, and demand-based control from the beginning.
Coordinate contractors and OEM vendors during installation to confirm compliance with drawings and specifications.
Observe factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for compressors, dryers, vacuum packages, and air-handling equipment.
Verify pipework fabrication, cleanliness, pressure testing, and passivation for CDA and vacuum lines to prevent contamination.
Manage installation punch-lists, non-conformance reports, and interface coordination between mechanical, electrical, and controls trades.
Confirm safety systems, isolation points, and LOTO provisions are accurately installed and detailed.
Lead commissioning and system start-up; develop and complete commissioning protocols and qualification test plans.
Verify CDA purity qualification to the required ISO 8573 classes for particles, dew point (pressure dew point), and oil including accurate sampling and line-flushing methodology.
Validate vacuum system ultimate pressure, response, and capacity at point-of-use; confirm exhaust flow balancing and static-pressure set-points.
Qualify HVAC performance: temperature, humidity, air-change rates, filtration, and pressurization to ISO 14644 cleanroom classifications.
Support tool-install hook-up and utility readiness aligned to fab ramp achievements; hand over qualified systems with complete turnover packages and initial maintenance plans.
Act as the responsible O&M lead for designated systems throughout their operational service life, ensuring safe, reliable 24/7 availability.
Develop, own, and continuously refine the preventive (PM), predictive (PdM), and condition-based maintenance strategy using RCM / FMEA methodology.
Plan and schedule all maintenance activities via the SAP PM; manage work orders, PM compliance, backlog, and shutdown / turnaround planning.
Manage OEM service contracts, specialist vendors, and in-house technicians; define spare-parts strategy and critical-spares holding to protect uptime.
Own reliability performance (MTBF, MTTR, availability); lead breakdown response, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions to eliminate repeat failures.
Manage statutory inspections for dry-system pressure equipment (e.g., air receivers) including DOSH Certificate of Fitness (CF) renewals.
Continuously supervise system performance via BMS and drive optimization of energy, capacity, and stability against build intent.
Identify, justify, and deliver optimization and reliability-improvement projects with quantified return on investment, energy savings, and carbon-reduction benefits.
Manage system upgrades, capacity expansions, tie-ins, and end-of-life equipment replacement with minimal production risk and full change management (MOC).
Optimize compressed-air demand: leak-detection and repair programmes, pressure-band optimization, sequencing, VSD tuning, and heat-of-compression recovery.
Take ownership for, plan, and predict the yearly maintenance operating budget (OPEX) for assigned systems including spares, consumables, service contracts, and labor.
Prepare the yearly budget submission with clear, data-driven justification; track actual spending against budget and manage variances monthly.
Build and justify the maintenance/repair capital (CAPEX) case for equipment replacement, overhaul, and reliability upgrades using lifecycle-cost analysis.
Drive cost optimization without compromising safety or reliability, negotiate service contracts, optimize spares inventory, and make data-driven repair-vs-replace decisions.
Report budget performance, savings, and cost indicators to management; ensure spending aligns with procurement and financial-governance requirements.
Support ISO 50001 Energy Management System requirements, energy audits, and reporting obligations under the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Act 2024 (EECA 2024).
Provide technical mentorship to engineers, technicians, and operators on assigned systems.
Represent Facilities in internal, corporate, customer, and third-party audits (e.g., ISO surveillance, customer quality audits) as system subject‑matter expert.
Collaborate with process/tool-install, construction, and global facilities teams to align utility delivery with fab ramp schedules.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering field from a recognized university (accredited by MQA or Engineering Accreditation Council).
At least 5 years of applicable mechanical / facilities engineering experience, focusing heavily on compressed air, vacuum, exhaust, cleanroom, and HVAC systems.
Direct experience in a semiconductor, wafer‑fab, data‑centre, pharmaceutical, or other high‑purity / critical cleanroom environment and able to support shift, weekend, night or emergency work when required.
Solid grounding in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and rotating‑equipment fundamentals.
Holding a Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 1 or Type 2 certification under EECA 2024 is helpful for energy‑related responsibility.
Having a Project Management Professional (PMP®) or a comparable certification is helpful for delivering capital projects and managing budgets.
Experienced in capital project delivery from concept build through commissioning and hand‑over to operations, followed by long‑term O&M ownership.
Hands‑on experience owning an annual maintenance budget (OPEX) planning, forecasting, and cost control against target.
Solid understanding of BMS platforms, SAP PM, AI tools and AI‑enabled ways of working to improve efficiency, productivity, and decision‑making.
