A reputable insurance company in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Senior Executive / Executive in Underwriting for Commercial Lines, specializing in Property Classes. The role involves supporting the Section Head in managing property classes, ensuring risk exposure aligns with profitability targets, and building strategic partnerships. Candidates should possess a degree in Insurance and relevant experience in property insurance underwriting. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.
Senior Executive / Executive Underwriting Commercial Lines (Property Classes)
Support the Section Head in the management of Property classes by assisting in business strategy development and execution, underwriting activities, and portfolio performance. The role contributes to P&L performance and ensures underwriting discipline aligned with overall business objectives.
The key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Support trading strategies to position the company competitively in the market while maintaining underwriting discipline. Accountable for underwriting decisions and portfolio oversight.
Ensure overall risk exposure is aligned with the company’s profitability targets, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements, while remaining consistent with regional objectives and local practices.
Maintain and build strategic partnerships by fostering collaboration and clear communication with internal stakeholders, brokers, and clients.
Deliver operational excellence through effective process optimization, governance, compliance, and risk management (including sanctions screening, underwriting filings, and policy issuance), in accordance with local guidelines and practices.
Liaise with treaty reinsurers on risks exceeding the company’s underwriting authority for approval and acceptance.
Review and adhere to underwriting rules and guidelines for the Commercial Lines portfolio.
Underwrite and analyse risks in accordance with company underwriting guidelines.
Assist the Section Head in internal and external audits, as well as reporting requirements.
Job Specification:
Degree in Insurance or related field.
Preferably with CAII/AAII (CMII/AMII) qualification.
Minimum 2 – 5 years of relevant experience in Property insurance underwriting.
Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
Demonstrated drive for professional excellence.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
Self-motivated with a positive attitude and ability to work independently.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office applications
