Job summary

A leading infrastructure conglomerate in Malaysia is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to develop and manage project schedules for construction projects. Job description
Job Objective

The Senior Planning Engineer / Project Planner is responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring project schedules and planning activities for construction projects. This role ensures that all project phases are executed efficiently, on time, and within budget. The position requires close collaboration with senior project managers, coordinators, engineers, quantity surveyors, and contractors to coordinate resources, resolve scheduling conflicts, and optimize workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop comprehensive construction schedules using planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  2. Integrate design, procurement, and construction activities into a unified project timeline.
  3. Monitor progress and update schedules based on actual site conditions.
  4. Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard project timelines.
  5. Coordinate with site teams, subcontractors, and consultants to collect progress data.
  6. Ensure alignment between site activities and overall project milestones.
  7. Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, including look‑ahead schedules.
  8. Analyze schedule variances and recommend corrective actions.
  9. Track and monitor resources (manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors).
  10. Update and revise work programs as necessary.
  11. Maintain accurate records of planning activities and schedule changes.
  12. Support project managers in resource allocation and productivity tracking.
  13. Contribute to risk assessments and contingency planning.
  14. Assist in claims analysis and preparation of Extension of Time (EOT) submissions.
  15. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate and realistic project timelines.
  16. Conduct critical path analysis and risk assessments to anticipate delays and implement proactive measures.
  17. Monitor project performance against baseline schedules and provide regular updates to management.
  18. Prepare reports and presentations highlighting milestones, timelines, and potential challenges.
  19. Develop and monitor scopes of work using work‑breakdown structure (WBS) for control and integrity.
  20. Coordinate forecasts and progress across departments to identify issues and ensure timely resolution.
  21. Assess and prepare proposed EOT work programs.
  22. Assist in strategic planning to maximize project benefits.
  23. Mentor and guide junior planning staff, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Work Arrangement
  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Working Days: 6 days a week
  • Working Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field.
