Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems that support production and facility operations. This includes maintaining power distribution, machinery, and utility systems. The role involves managing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime, leading electrical projects and energy efficiency initiatives, and ensuring compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and regulatory standards. The engineer also provides technical guidance to maintenance and production teams to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. In addition, this position supervises a team of technicians and contractors to support daily operations, preventive maintenance programs, and ongoing facility improvement initiatives.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for electrical equipment and utilities such as lighting, backup power systems, etc.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical faults that interrupt production.
- Coordinate with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment availability.
- Develop and maintain contingency plans for power interruptions or electrical failures.
Electrical Infrastructure Design & Management
- Oversee the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems supporting production and facility operation.
- Ensure power distribution systems (transformers, switchgear, panels, cabling) meet the plant’s operational and plan and execute electrical upgrades to support new machinery, automation, or process improvements.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors for repair, maintenance, and renovation projects, ensuring quality workmanship and timely completion.
- Review quotations, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to safety and service level agreements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all electrical systems comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g. IEEE, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, ST, etc).
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and promote a culture of safety.
- Maintain accurate as‑built drawings, test reports, and maintenance records.
- Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other electrical safety protocols to protect personnel.
- Act as a liaison between plants, utility providers, and authorities for electrical system.
Budgeting & Resource Planning
- Assist in preparing annual maintenance budgets, tracking expenses, and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
- Manage inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance materials to ensure operational readiness.
Other Responsibilities
- Support facility‑related improvement projects and sustainability initiatives.
- Uphold 5S standards across all high‑tension (HT) areas, substations, transformers (TX), and generator rooms.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Facilities Manager or management.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- 11kV Chargeman certification or higher.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant working experience in facilities management.
- Good leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities with a hands‑on approach and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under minimal supervision.
