Overview

This developer will be working to expand our capabilities around high-performance backend batch, real-time and streaming APIs and data pipelines. We leverage a lot of cloud and we have a preference for AWS, so it is expected that the developer should know how to work with fully serverless development and has knowledge of AWS service offerings for application development (e.g., EKS, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, EventBridge, DynamoDB, SQS, S3, Neptune). We have data at the heart of our operations, and this role will help expand our Mosaic Portal backend and pipelines, which is the main place where clients access and interact with our data product: Mosaic.

Responsibilities

• Priority is placed on development work, with approximately one third of time spent in design.
• Design, coding, testing and installation of applications---in a major language or across multiple platforms; developing operating and system documentation.
• Work with users to evaluate IT applications and equipment requirements; ensure systems are developed within agreed budgets and time frames and meet design and security standards.
• Provide technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of the applications development team.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software development, with at least 3 years general IT experience, coupled with tertiary qualifications in computer science or a related discipline.
• May include advanced Java/J2EE or .NET architecture skills and the ability to transfer these to specific project deliverables, including web models.
• Knowledge in open-source programming. Understand the essential needs of users and meet these in well-designed programs. Good skills in time and resource management.
• Familiarity with AWS (e.g., EKS, Lambda).
• Experience with Snowflake. Knowledge in Spark is a bonus.
• Other technologies: ExpressJS, NPM; DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Terraform.
