What role you will play in our team
The Senior Corrosion Engineer position is part of the well-established Asia‑Pacific Materials Integrity team based in Menara ExxonMobil, Kuala Lumpur. The role is to provide engineering supports to Capital Projects and Operations across all business lines. We are expanding our organization and looking for experienced individuals with an innovative mind‑set to drive change in our business, and who enjoy working in dynamic, collaborative, and diverse global teams.
What you will do
- Provide engineering surveillance and technical support to the business for materials‑related works
- Applying deep technical expertise and broad business acumen to solve more complex problems.
- Develop and implement new technology & innovative solutions to non‑routine problems
- Provide materials specialist support for large capital projects and smaller regional projects to ensure technical quality
- Participates in global and site‑wide programs aimed at improving unit reliability and optimizing maintenance
- Provides on‑site field support during scheduled maintenance activities
- Represent ExxonMobil in industry and external engagement activities (e.g. MTI, API and AMPP) where appropriate
- Mentor early career materials integrity engineers to support their career development
Corrosion Experience
- Advice the development of equipment strategies and integrity operating windows involving higher complexity corrosion mechanisms (e.g., crude corrosion, acid gas corrosion, etc.)
- Collaborate with other disciplines (Process, Pipeline, Flow Assurance, Mechanical Integrity etc.) to recommend corrective actions, upgrade integrity programs and equipment strategies.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of corrosion data from various sources (corrosion coupons/spools, probes, sensors, inspection reports, process conditions and fluids analyses) to support global business units and manufacturing sites.
- Lead the design of fit‑for‑purpose corrosion monitoring programs for facilities and review of detailed designs for corrosion monitoring equipment.
- Perform risk assessments, root cause failure analysis and provide recommendations for corrosion or erosion related threats.
- Perform or supervise predictive corrosion modelling with modelling tools, basic corrosion calculations and use corrosion design curves to support operations and capital projects.
Asset Integrity Management Experience
- Develop, implement, maintain, and improve integrity management systems for new projects and existing operations. Includes consideration of corrosion management equipment/systems, process surveillance, and monitoring/inspections.
- Execute and continuously improve in‑field integrity execution plans, applying Integrity Management System tools and standards. Consider work program prioritization of preventative and corrective integrity management tasks, execution planning, contractor management and work process optimization.
- Application of fitness for service (FFS) methods to pipelines, static equipment and related systems for assessment of corrosion, cracks and other damages.
- Facilitate medium to high complexity reliability investigations, requiring advanced root cause and troubleshooting techniques.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Have at least 10 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas industry
- Demonstrate work experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
1. Asset Integrity Management
2. Materials selection
3. Failure Analysis
4. Corrosion control
- Have Bachelor's/Master's Degree /PhD in Materials Engineering
