Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist – AI & Automation Focus

We are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Specialist with AI & Automation capabilities to lead and accelerate BI development across multiple client projects.

This role goes beyond traditional reporting. You will:

• Build robust BI and data warehouse solutions
• Automate repetitive BI tasks using AI and scripting
• Leverage AI‑assisted analytics, data modelling, and development workflows
• Act as a senior individual contributor, improving speed, quality, and scalability of BI delivery

You will work closely with architects, developers, and clients to modernize how BI solutions are designed, built, and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

BI & Data Platform Delivery

Collaborate with retail clients to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable BI and analytics solutions.

Design, develop, and maintain data warehouses, marts, and semantic models optimised for analytics.

Build interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, focusing on performance, usability, and business impact.

Write, optimise, and maintain complex SQL queries across large datasets.

Design and manage data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Data Flows, and ELT/ETL best practices.

Ensure data quality, integrity, lineage, and performance across ingestion and transformation layers.

Work with cloud data platforms such as Azure SQL, Snowflake, and Azure Data Lake.

AI‑Driven BI & Automation (Core Differentiator)

Use Python and AI‑assisted tools to automate BI workflows such as:

• Data profiling and validation
• Metadata generation and documentation
• Report and dataset optimisation
• Repetitive SQL and transformation tasks

Apply LLM‑assisted development (e.g. AI copilots, prompt‑driven analytics, SQL generation, insight summarisation) to speed up BI delivery.

Experiment with and implement AI‑powered analytics use cases such as:

• Automated insights and anomaly detection
• Natural‑language‑to‑SQL / BI exploration
• AI‑assisted forecasting and trend analysis (in collaboration with data science teams)

Continuously improve BI productivity through tooling, templates, reusable components, and automation.

Best Practices & Technical Leadership

Establish and enforce BI standards, naming conventions, performance guidelines, and data modelling best practices.

Review and optimise existing BI solutions for scalability and cost efficiency.

Mentor junior BI developers and interns, sharing modern BI and AI‑enabled development practices.

Required Qualifications

Experience

5–8+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Data Engineering roles.

Strong experience delivering BI solutions in retail, FMCG, or multi‑store environments is highly preferred.

Core Technical Skills

Advanced SQL (performance tuning, large fact tables, partitioning concepts).

Strong experience with Power BI (DAX, data modelling, performance optimisation).

Hands‑on experience with Azure BI stack:

• Data Flows, SSIS/SSAS/SSRS (where applicable)
• Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses.

Python

Python for data processing, automation, or analytics tasks.

AI & Automation Skills (Must‑Have for This Role)

Practical experience using AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, etc.) to accelerate development.

Ability to design automation scripts or workflows to reduce manual BI effort.

Familiarity with LLM concepts (prompting, limitations, validation, hallucination control).

Experience integrating AI outputs safely into BI or analytics workflows.

Strong mindset toward “build once, reuse many times”.

Soft Skills
