Job Summary

The Scorekeeper/Gym Attendant is responsible for operating the scoreboard, maintaining an accurate scorebook during contests, and supervising gym and game activity during league play.

Essential Functions
  • Properly and accurately operate the scoreboard and scorebook during youth and adult basketball games.
  • Arrive in advance of activities to open/unlock and help prepare the gym/facility for athletic events and games.
  • Monitor and maintain the gym during games—clean spills, organize team and spectator seating.
  • Communicate with contracted officials regarding league and game expectations.
  • Ensure necessary equipment and first aid supplies are present; complete appropriate safety forms as needed.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with Batavia Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Represent, support, and exhibit the established organizational values of the Batavia Park District to all volunteers, staff, fans and participants.
Education and Experience

This position requires a person who is currently high school or older, with an interest or background in sports, specifically basketball. Must be able to multitask, operate a scoreboard, and keep a pen/paper scorebook during intense situations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is performed in an indoor gym environment with basketballs, spectators, and whistles. The majority of time is spent sitting at the scorer’s table operating the scoreboard. Physical demands include setting up and taking down the gym before and after games and occasionally lifting and moving items weighing over 50 pounds.
