Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field required or preferred.
• A recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE) preferred.
• Experience in an international school or Cambridge curriculum is preferred.
• Familiarity with Cambridge IGCSE Science curriculum and assessment objectives.
• Strong subject knowledge and confident English communication.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Cambridge IGCSE Science lessons (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
• Prepare lesson plans, materials, and assessments
• Conduct safe laboratory experiments and demonstrations
• Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations with revision and past papers
• Assess and provide constructive feedback on student work
• Monitor progress and provide support or enrichment as needed

Job description

St. John's International School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and qualified IGCSE Science Teacher to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective Science lessons, developing students' scientific knowledge and critical-thinking skills, and preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations. The ideal candidate should have strong subject knowledge, effective classroom management skills, and the ability to inspire students to develop an interest in Science through practical activities and inquiry-based learning.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons in accordance with the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum and relevant syllabus requirements.
• Teach relevant Science subjects, such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics, according to the school's teaching requirements and the candidate's specialisation.
• Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, worksheets, presentations and assessment tasks.
• Conduct practical experiments and demonstrations while ensuring laboratory safety procedures are followed.
• Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations through revision lessons, past-paper practice and examination techniques.
• Assess, mark and provide constructive feedback on students' assignments, tests and examinations.
• Monitor students' academic progress and implement appropriate support or enrichment activities.
• Maintain effective classroom management and promote a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Encourage scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessment results and academic progress.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science Education or a relevant field.
• A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education, PGCE or equivalent, is preferred.
• Relevant teaching experience in an international school or Cambridge curriculum environment is preferred.
• Familiarity with the Cambridge IGCSE Science curriculum, syllabus requirements and assessment objectives.
• Strong subject knowledge in the relevant Science discipline(s).
• Good spoken and written English communication skills.
• Effective lesson-planning, classroom management and student assessment skills.
• Ability to engage students with different learning abilities and academic needs.
• Commitment to student safeguarding, professional ethics and continuous professional development.
