Job summary

Sunrate is seeking a dedicated Sanctions Screening Analyst to join our global payments and treasury platform. You will support sanctions-screening controls, review alerts, maintain watchlists, and assist with system enhancements to strengthen regulatory compliance.

You will work across multiple stages of the sanctions control lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with evolving global regulatory expectations while collaborating with global teams and technical colleagues.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of sanctions screening or regulated ops experience.
  • Understanding of major sanctions regimes (UN, US, EU, UK).
  • Familiarity with screening tools, watchlists and alert workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; meticulous record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Review sanctions and watchlist alerts accurately within timelines.
  • Assess matches and document rationale; distinguish true vs false positives.
  • Escalate high-risk cases following internal procedures.
  • Draft and update sanctions screening SOPs and guidance materials.
  • Support data updates and QA of datasets (sanctions, PEP, adverse media).
  • Collaborate with technical teams on rule optimization and system changes.
  • Assist in UAT and validation of screening rules and data updates.
  • Maintain records for reporting, audits and trend analysis.
  • Support management reporting and internal training materials.

As a Sanctions Screening Analyst, you will support Sunrate’s sanctions-screening controls and help protect the company from sanctions-related and financial crime risks. You will be involved in the end-to-end screening process, including reviewing alerts, maintaining screening procedures and watchlist, supporting system enhancements and assisting with the ongoing improvement of sanctions controls.

This role requires strong attention to detail, sound analytical judgment and involvement across multiple stages of the sanctions control lifecycle to ensure our framework remains accurate, timely, and aligned with evolving global regulatory expectations.

What you’ll be spending your time on

  • Review sanctions and watchlist screening alerts accurately and within required timelines.
  • Assess potential matches, distinguish true or potential matches from false positives., and clearly document the rationale for decisions.
  • Escalate potential sanctions matches and high-risk cases in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing and updating sanctions screening SOPs and guidance materials, to ensure effective operations and alignment with current regulatory expectations.
  • Support timely updates and quality checks of sanctions, PEP, internal watchlists, and adverse media datasets, and help incorporate regulatory requirements and changes into the screening workflow.
  • Work with technical teams on screening system enhancements, including rule optimisation, matching thresholds and fuzzy-matching configurations.
  • Support user acceptance testing and validation of screening rules, system changes and data updates.
  • Provide sanctions screening support to compliance and operations teams when alerts, system issues or procedural questions arise.
  • Maintain accurate records of alerts, escalations, quality assurance findings, and screening decisions to support reporting, audits, and trend analysis.
  • Assist with management reporting, audit requests, and analysis of screening trends.
  • Assist in preparing internal training materials, operating guides and other practical resources for sanctions screening processes.
  • Support periodic reviews of sanctions‑related controls, ensuring alignment with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to workflow enhancements, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement projects that strengthen sanctions‑screening effectiveness.

For this role you’ll also have:

  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in sanctions screening, AML/CFT operations, transaction monitoring or another regulated operational environment.
  • Practical understanding of sanctions-screening concepts, alert review and escalation processes.
  • Familiarity with screening tools, watchlist databases and alert-handling workflows.
  • General knowledge of major international sanctions regimes, including but not limited to those administered by the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess information carefully and consistently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with global teams across different functions and time zones.
  • Willingness to work rotational AM/PM shifts, including on public holidays where required.
  • A proactive approach and commitment to maintaining high compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in fintech, banking, payments, financial services.
  • Exposure to screening-rule testing, system configuration, quality assurance and/or process improvement.
