A corporate governance research firm is seeking Research Associates to work from home in Malaysia. Looking for individuals interested in corporate governance and investment stewardship. The role involves researching publicly-listed companies in China, analysing governance practices, and assisting institutional investors. Candidates require a Bachelor's degree and strong English and Mandarin skills. This temporary full-time position offers excellent entry-level experience in the field of corporate governance.
We are currently looking for multiple Research Associates to join our China Markets Research Team. You will work from home remotely with colleagues in Sydney, Australia as well as throughout Malaysia. Candidates from all over Malaysia are encouraged to apply. Both English and Mandarin language skills are required.
There are seven temporary full-time positions (starting mid-February through to June), and successful candidates who perform well in the role may be offered extended contracts or permanent positions.
Ideal for an individual seeking an entry-level position in corporate governance and/or investment stewardship.
As a member of the Proxy Research team, you will conduct corporate governance research on publicly-listed companies in mainland China and/or on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and make draft recommendations to institutional investors on how they should vote at their portfolio companies' shareholder meetings. You will comb through publicly disclosed information (e.g. stock exchange announcements including annual reports and notices of meeting, company press releases, news articles, etc.) to collect corporate governance-related data on each company to which you have been assigned. Then, working under close supervision from the team's analysts, you will analyse each company's governance practices within a policy-based framework of market best practices. The bulk of your time will be spent analysing company board and governance structures and reviewing proposals up for vote at shareholder meetings. This role does not involve a significant amount of quantitative analysis but requires an ability to understand and identify what is being disclosed as much as what is being omitted.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about corporate governance frameworks, to research publicly-traded companies, including their directors, and to work at the forefront of the corporate governance and investment stewardship field.
