Job Overview

The consulting business of Oliver Wyman offers a dynamic and fast-growing environment with an excellent team spirit. Knowledge Services comprises an international team of 180 staff providing Research and Knowledge Management support to consultant teams globally. We are looking for an experienced Researcher to join our team who will support our consultants by sourcing and synthesizing market data, industry developments and company information necessary for the successful execution of client projects and business development initiatives.

This role requires direct ownership of research and the ability to independently triage workflow. The role requires the ability to develop strong relationships with consulting teams and help consultants to scope and develop their research needs, conduct timely, accurate and cost-effective research for focused needs, and deliver compelling synthesized end products which includes some analysis.

The development focus will be toward Energy and Natural Resources specialization. This will further enhance your output by partly improving your synthesis or data by incorporating some analysis and/or interpretation of the results (the “so-what”) based on your growing understanding and knowledge about the subject matter.

You will also begin to take coaching responsibilities for more junior research colleagues and provide ad hoc programmatic analysis of key business drivers related to the different practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a wide range of information tools and proprietary data resources to provide research for client projects and business development.
  • Provide both quick solutions and in-depth research for the business.
  • Synthesize information and glean key concepts and trends from the information. Able to provide own point of view and basic insights in the deliverables.
  • Conduct selected primary research as required - includes mystery shopping, expert interviews, conference attendance and notes, facilitating access to primary research capabilities.
  • Leverage the Knowledge Management team to provide joint solutions on projects.
  • Assist in the education and training of the consulting staff both with research issues, and with end-user training specifically.
  • Work within the framework of the Asia Pacific based team, sharing work and experience, and helping build the research function in the region.
  • Collaborate with consultants engaged in client service, business development or knowledge/intellectual capital building by delivering highly relevant and well-synthesized research.
  • Build deep expertise in Energy and Natural Resources sector, related topics and master tools and data resources to support your analysis.
  • Develop strong trusted relationships with consultants and research colleagues to promote effective knowledge sharing and positive work environment.
  • Scope and develop research need of our consultants and partners to conduct timely, accurate and cost-effective research.
  • Keep abreast of key industry developments/innovations to promote awareness across the Financial Services team.
  • Manage large data sets, conduct data analyses and build/validate models.
  • Take ownership and lead customized research products / services, including identifying opportunities for customized research products / services, sector/company fact packs, benchmarks, trend analysis or support for Oliver Wyman reports.
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration skills, including coaching junior research colleagues and continually collaborating with global Knowledge Services team members by sharing ideas and experiences.
Person Specification
  • 3-5 years of prior experience as a researcher, analyst or consultant at an investment bank, private equity firm, asset manager, law firm, research specialist provider or management consultancy.
  • Knowledge of the Asia Pacific market and the Energy and Natural Resources industry, specifically Oil & Gas sector.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and inquisitive nature allowing you to deliver an effective research product ensuring your credibility as a trusted team member.
  • Excellent research synthesis skills allowing you to draw out key insights and to provide basic data analysis.
  • Advanced Excel and PPT skills.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, LSEG Refinitiv, S&P Capital IQ and similar market data resources.
  • Strong technical aptitude - knowledge of Python, Web Scraping beneficial.
