Summary

STERIS Malaysia is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Repair Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of endoscopy devices and surgical instruments to ensure safe and effective functionality.

You will diagnose and identify technical issues, replace or repair defective parts of devices or equipment to meet required standards. You perform quality control checks on repaired equipment according to specification requirements and preparing the necessary reports and documentation. You will also manage tools, parts inventory, support logistics, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

As part of a high-performing team in a production facility, you will collaborate with cross-functional departments and provide training to other engineers, helping to build team capability and ensure consistency in operations. Your work will directly support our mission to deliver reliable medical equipment and superior Customer experience.

What You Will Do
  • Abides by all Company safety, health policies, and procedures. Aware of and conforms to Company ISO goals and objectives and supports ISO requirements. Uses personal protective equipment, as required.
  • Complies with work schedules, established team standards and protocols to ensure a safe, productive and respectful work environment. Completes Safety observations per site requirements. Completes workplace organization audits per site requirements.
  • Troubleshoots endoscopy/surgical device/instrument. Identifies instrument issues and defects using standardized and varied testing procedures and testing mechanisms. Determine correct spare parts required to complete a repair.
  • Perform estimation of repair, as necessary. Produce diagnostic reports and quotations.
  • Services, restores, repairs and replaced defective parts for endoscopy/surgical devices/equipment to required specifications.
  • Reassembles endoscopy/surgical devices or equipment and tests assembly for conformance to specifications.
  • Perform QC checking on repaired equipment as per specification requirement and produce necessary QC reports and related document.
  • Request parts from stockroom. Orders routine repair parts. Participate in ensure appropriate inventory levels and components are maintained.
  • Perform inventory transactions and management in current role. Proper management on non-inventory spare parts.
  • Perform logistic arrangements for equipment shipping in and out from repair workshop with proper follow up.
  • Manages utilization of equipment, work area, and personnel to obtain maximum efficiency and meet
  • performance objectives. Ensures all tools are functioning properly, and promptly reports any defects or restocking needs. Checks the effective dates of consumables and ensures consumables expiry is monitored and reported according to the established schedule.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance on endoscopy testing equipment to ensure functionality and abide to local requirement.
  • Train other engineers in On-The-Job Training programs.
  • Frequently interact with subordinate supervisors. Works closely with other internal areas to drive product capability development and operational process standards. May interact with Customers service, supply chain and/or functional peers to ensure smooth operations of matters between functional areas and achieve maximum efficiency and meet performance objectives.
  • Collect feedback from Customer and report to subordinate supervisors to support engineering teams in ongoing product improvements and new product development initiatives.
  • Identifies risks and issues and escalates timely and effectively.
  • Participates in the development of setting standard work instruction (SWI). Participates in repair to inform validation of work instruction.
  • Completes workplace (5S) organization audits per site requirements and leads the Metrics Board Meetings that focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC).
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering disciplines. Related certifications in technical or mechanical area, competitive equipment training may be considered towards experience requirement.
  • Adequate experience in after-sales repair, maintenance, assembly, or related capacity in endoscopy device or surgical instruments required.
  • Demonstrates ability to determine correct spare parts required to complete a repair.
  • Good eye to hand coordination and ability to assemble small parts.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand repair concepts and follow sequencing or repairs.
