Job summary

Swiss Re in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, seeks a Reinsurance Contracts Expert / Counsel to support Property & Casualty Reinsurance across Asia Pacific. You will partner with underwriting, client management, and stakeholders to manage contract risks and ensure certainty.

Key duties include drafting and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with laws, and advising on wording and market practices across global regions. Travel about two weeks yearly.

Qualifications

• Degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or Law.
• ACII or equivalent insurance qualification preferred.
• Legal background in Common Law/English Law advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years in (re)insurance with claims, underwriting, or legal exposure.
• Experience drafting and negotiating reinsurance agreements.

Responsibilities

• Independently draft, review, and negotiate reinsurance contracts, binders, slips, endorsements, and related docs.
• Ensure wordings align with business intent, standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws.
• Conduct portfolio analysis and provide insights on contract risks and trends.
• Support Head of P&C Reinsurance Contracts in managing risks across the portfolio.
• Collaborate with Client Managers, Underwriters, brokers, and clients during negotiations.
• Advise on interpretation, wording implications, and market practices.
• Contribute to policies related to contracts and governance standards.
• Support development of contract management and analytics systems.
• Develop and deliver training on contract topics and thought leadership.
• Maintain governance, risk, and control standards for wordings and processes.
• Participate in global projects across APAC, EMEA, and the US.
• Travel for business approximately two weeks per year.

About the Team

P&C Contracts is part of Underwriting Excellence in Property & Casualty Reinsurance and is responsible for ensuring Swiss Re's (re)insurance agreements comply with underwriting and contract standards.

You will join a highly engaged global team of approximately 40 legal, claims, underwriting, and contract specialists supporting Property, Casualty, and Specialty business lines worldwide. The team is responsible for:

• Drafting and reviewing (re)insurance wordings.


• Advising on contract-related matters.


• Negotiating and finalising reinsurance contract terms with internal and external stakeholders.


• Supporting the development of contract management tools, wording analytics, and contract governance standards.


• Collaborating across regions, including APAC, EMEA, and the Americas, on global initiatives and projects.

About the Role

As Reinsurance Contracts Expert / Counsel, you will support Swiss Re's Property & Casualty Reinsurance business across Asia Pacific, partnering closely with underwriting, client management, and other stakeholders to manage contract risks and ensure contract certainty.

• Contributing to the development of corporate policies related to contracts.


• Supporting the enhancement of contract management and analytical systems.


• Developing and delivering training on contract-related topics and thought leadership initiatives.


• Maintaining strong governance, risk, and control standards for contract wordings and processes.


• Participating in global projects and working closely with colleagues across APAC, EMEA, and the US.


• Travelling for business approximately two weeks per year.

About You

We're looking for an experienced reinsurance professional with strong technical, analytical, and stakeholder management capabilities who can work independently while building collaborative relationships across a global organisation.

You bring:

Qualifications & Experience

• A degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Law, or a related field.


• Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., ACII or equivalent) preferred.


• Legal qualification or background in Common Law / English Law is advantageous.


• At least 5 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry in areas such as:
