About the role
The role supports and leads the tax function of the company. The role ensures proper tax compliance, contributes to tax planning and advisory, helps manage tax risks, liaises with tax authorities, oversees indirect & direct taxes, and supports management / senior leadership in tax strategy matters. Also supervises junior tax staff and ensures internal controls around tax are maintained.
Your Day-to-Day
- Ensure compliance with all direct and indirect tax obligations, including corporate income tax, withholding tax, sales & service tax (SST)/value-added tax, stamp duty, real property gains tax (RPGT), transfer pricing documentation, etc.
- Review, prepare, and file tax returns and computations accurately and on time.
- Monitor, calculate and make provisions for tax in financial statements.
- Lead and manage tax audit and investigations from tax authorities; assist in appeals, claims, and refunds.
- Monitor legislation, regulation, and technical developments in Malaysian tax law / regulations; assess impact on company, recommend changes.
- Review business agreements or contracts to identify and mitigate tax risks.
- Identify and leverage tax incentives, reliefs or exemptions available under Malaysian law to optimize tax exposure.
- Maintain relations with tax authorities, external advisors, auditors.
\- Lead, supervise, coach tax associates and senior tax staff, review their work, ensure quality and accuracy.
- Establish or improve tax compliance and reporting processes.
- Liaise with finance / accounting teams to ensure tax accounting aligns with financial reporting (e.g. under FRS / IFRS or local financial reporting standards).
- Support budgeting and forecasting by providing tax cost estimates or impacts.
- Ad-hoc projects related to tax, regulatory compliance or risk mitigation.
Your Know-How
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance / Tax or related field.
- Professional qualification advantageous.
- Minimum 5-7 years working experience in taxation, exposure to both direct & indirect tax.
- Good knowledge of Malaysian tax legislation, SST / sales & services tax, tax incentives, transfer pricing etc.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia. Ability to present findings, discuss with management, liaise with authorities.
- High integrity, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
