The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is seeking a highly skilled PR Manager to strengthen UoSM’s reputation, visibility, and voice. This role sits at the intersection of media relations and corporate copywriting, requiring both creativity and credibility.

The PR & Communications professional will independently manage media engagement, craft compelling narratives for diverse stakeholders, and support high‑level campaigns that contribute to the institution’s growth, reputation, and influence. This role is ideal for someone with strong networks in the media landscape and proven expertise in corporate communications, speechwriting, and campaign delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Media Relations & Engagement

    Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets across Malaysia and internationally.

    Proactively pitch stories that showcase institutional strengths, milestones, and partnerships.

    Coordinate interviews, press briefings, and coverage for leadership and institutional events.

  • Corporate Copywriting

    Draft high‑quality written materials including press releases, media kits, speeches, talking points, op‑ed articles, and newsletters.

    Ensure tone and messaging align with the institution’s brand, values, and growth objectives.

    Translate complex academic or strategic themes into accessible, compelling content for broad audiences.

  • Campaigns & Projects

    Manage PR campaigns that align with institutional goals, program launches, partnership announcements, research impact stories, and student/alumni success features.

    Collaborate with marketing and recruitment teams to ensure consistency in messaging across channels.

    Contribute to thought‑leadership initiatives, positioning the institution as a trusted voice in higher education.

  • Monitoring & Reporting

    Track and evaluate media coverage, sentiment, and competitor positioning.

    Provide insights and recommendations for strengthening reputation and visibility.

  • Support to Leadership & Strategy

    Prepare leadership communication materials for events, conferences, and key stakeholder engagements.

    Provide advisory input on messaging during sensitive issues or reputational risks.

    Support the broader PR & Marketing team in executing high‑impact initiatives that feed into the institution’s strategic growth.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in PR, communications, or corporate copywriting, ideally with exposure to higher education, multinational organisations, or agencies.
  • Strong media network and proven track record in securing coverage.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with ability to adapt style for different audiences.
  • Confident in producing speeches, articles, and corporate narratives for senior leaders.
