Job description

The Plant Manager will lead the daily operations of the Malaysia Metal Fabrication Manufacturing Plant, ensuring the highest standards of productivity, quality, safety, and cost efficiency. This role is accountable for managing end-to-end plant operations — including production, maintenance, engineering, quality assurance, and logistics — while driving continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining strong compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

The incumbent will play a key role in implementing best manufacturing practices and strengthening operational capability to support business growth and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all manufacturing processes including cutting, welding, machining, assembly, painting/coating, and final inspection.

Ensure production plans are executed efficiently to meet delivery schedules, quality standards, and cost objectives.

Monitor and optimize machine utilization, production output, and manpower deployment.

Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to resolve technical or production bottlenecks.

2. Quality and Process Control

Enforce strict quality assurance protocols across fabrication, welding, and assembly processes.

Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ASME, AWS, or other relevant metal fabrication standards.

Review and approve process documentation, inspection reports, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

Foster a zero-defect culture and continuous improvement mindset among production teams.

Maintain a safe and compliant workplace in line with Malaysian DOSH and DOE regulations.

Promote proactive safety culture, lead incident investigations, and enforce HSE compliance.

Ensure all waste, scrap, and emissions are managed according to environmental standards.

4. Cost and Resource Management

Develop and manage the annual plant operating budget and capital expenditure plans.

Optimize resource utilization, energy consumption, and material yield to achieve cost targets.

Identify opportunities for automation or equipment upgrades to enhance productivity.

5. People Leadership and Development

Lead, train, and motivate a multidisciplinary workforce including supervisors, engineers, and technicians.

Build strong shop‑floor engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement participation.

Develop skill matrices and training plans for welding, machining, and assembly operators.

6. Continuous Improvement and Lean Initiatives

Implement Lean Manufacturing and 5S practices across the facility.

Lead Kaizen, OEE improvement, and waste‑reduction projects.

Introduce data‑driven performance tracking and process optimization systems.

7. Strategic and Cross‑functional Collaboration

Collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Finance to align operational priorities with business objectives.

Support new product industrialization and process validation for custom metal fabrication projects.

Provide operational insights for strategic planning and capacity expansion.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering or related discipline.

Minimum 8–10 years of experience in metal fabrication, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and deliver measurable operational improvements.

Proficient in production planning.

Familiar with Malaysian manufacturing laws, labour regulations, and safety requirements.

Strong leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with a hands‑on approach.

Excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin are advantageous.
