About the Role

Culmen International is hiring a qualified Physician in Malaysia to provide scientific and technical services to an international Department of Defense medical contract.

The objective of this contract is to provide clinical site management, in-country clinical research operations, and scientific laboratory support for surveillance, epidemiology, intervention studies, sample collection, and laboratory testing at field sites across Southeast Asia. This initiative is a cooperative project involving committed partner countries, including the United States.

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

The Physician will be responsible for Bacterial and Parasitic Disease Research and Viral Disease Research. The physician will be directly interfacing with governmental and technical subject matters experts across the medical space. Travel is anticipated within the country and in key Southeast Asian countries. Estimated about 15% travel.

  • Conduct and support laboratory and field based clinical research projects and clinical trial Phase 1 and 2 protocols.
  • Conduct and support basic science and discovery of novel methods, techniques, or products employing specialized tasks in molecular laboratory and field based clinical research projects.
  • Prepare research protocols and perform, develop, validate molecular assays. Molecular analysis shall include diagnostic testing and genotyping of pathogens to characterize resistant malaria, diarrheal, or wound pathogens (up to 1000 samples/month).
  • Perform bioinformatics analysis of whole genome sequence data to characterize the pathogenicity for bacterial specimens and virulence of resistance markers for malaria.
  • Conduct and support basic science and discovery of novel methods, techniques, or products employing specialized tasks in cellular, immunological (humoral/cellular immunity), and biological medical research methods.
  • Interface with local health care delivery centers (such as local clinics, Provincial Health Office and/or hospitals) to design and refine operational plans for malaria and other infectious disease clinical research study execution.
  • Write and execute scientific and clinical research protocols, and design/write and execute departmental clinical research studies in malaria and other infectious diseases.
  • Support the non-technical project management team with all scientific and technical matters which includes in contract deliverables and reports.
  • Perform all research and field work in accordance with country and U.S. regulatory policies for all studies.
Required Qualifications
  • Medical Degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of research experience conducting clinical trials in the area of infectious disease.
  • Active/Unrestricted License to practice medicine in Cambodia.
  • Fluent in English.
