Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly‑motivated teacher to join our PE & Sport Department. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high quality PE and Sport sessions that enhance the learning experience of all students. Expertise in Core PE and Academic PE Delivery (GCSE/A Level/BTEC) and a strong coaching profile in one or more of Football, Athletics, Swimming and Basketball, would be advantageous. There is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to lead a whole school sport, such as Football.

Key Duties
Teaching and Learning
  • Plan and prepare lessons
  • Teach, according to students' educational needs, setting high expectations for all
  • Set and mark students’ work, including examinations
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students
  • Give feedback to students which will help them to make good progress
  • Adapt lesson planning to feedback received from students and their work
Reporting and Assessing
  • Provide regular reports and grades for students in line with the School’s cycle
  • Identify and raise students of concern
  • Attend parent‑teacher meetings and provide oral reports to parents
  • Provide references for students, as requested
  • Assess and report on prospective students, as requested
  • Prepare examinations and tests for students, including common examinations and tests
Other Duties
  • Take register as required in a timely fashion, and alert a senior member of staff when concerned about the whereabouts of a student
  • Ensure the classroom is presented as a vibrant and positive space for learning
  • Promote the wellbeing of individual students and all assigned classes
  • Act upon concerns about students’ wellbeing, alerting the safeguarding team where necessary, and ensure appropriate records are kept
  • Communicate and consult with parents of students
  • Accompany students on school visits and trips
  • Supervise students and student activities, as required
  • Lead two extra‑curricular activities weekly
  • Play a role in marketing the School to prospective students and parents
  • Cover lessons for absent teachers as required
Primary School Responsibilities
  • Take primary responsibility for a class of students and work in close partnership with the year group team
  • Work closely with the class learning assistant
  • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and attend whole school and other meetings as required
  • Take the role of a subject coordinator and contribute to school development plans and schemes of work as required
Secondary School Responsibilities
  • Attend and contribute to department meetings and other staff meetings, as required
  • Contribute to department development plans and schemes of work, and undertake tasks as delegated by the Head of Department
  • Act as a mentor or Sixth Form Tutor for a group of students, providing guidance and advice on education, careers and social matters and leading PSHE lessons
Professional Development
  • Continue to develop professional skills, through CPD, further reading, etc.
  • Participate in the School’s focused development programme and performance management annually
  • Take part in CPD initiatives run by the School, e.g. observation fortnight
