GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Pharmacy Assistant supports the Pharmacy Services in various operational functions, including medication dispensing, drug preparation, compounding, repackaging, and providing basic counseling to customers on drug delivery devices. Works under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Deliver pharmaceutical care in alignment with the vision, mission, core values, and goals of the Pharmacy Services and the hospital.
Act as the first line of service in dispensing duties, including: Screening and order entry of prescriptions/ drug charts; Confirmation with doctors in the event of illegible handwriting, dosage/ frequency/ duration error or drug not available; Compounding pharmaceutical products for extemporaneous use; Packaging, labelling, checking and dispensing of medications; Sending prepared medications to the ward
Conduct monthly ward check and pharmacy stock check on slow moving items, short expiry item and rotate stock if required. Report any discrepancies found to Pharmacist.
Provide patient counseling when required and offer drug information to patients, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff, referring to complex queries to the Pharmacist.
Restock drugs in pharmacy, wards and units and inform Pharmacist In-Charge of unavailability of drugs.
Ensure adequate inventory level of general supplies, e.g. prescription pads/drug charts, disposables and dispensing items for smooth service operation.
Unpack ward-returned medications and pre-pack bulk medications when necessary.
Assist in the training of Pharmacy Assistant students during clinical placements.
Accurately reconcile and finalize patient discharge billing.
Prepare external solutions and disinfectants for wards/clinics and manage over-the-counter medication sales.
Participate in scheduled hospital stock takes and inventory audits.
Properly separate Psychotropic and Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) prescriptions from regular ones prior to filing.
Ensure accuracy and precision during dispensing. Immediately report any medication errors or irregularities to the Pharmacist or Pharmacist in Charge.
EDUCATION:
Diploma in Pharmacy.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES:
Experience working in a hospital setting is an added advantage.

Fluent in both spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Proficient in the use of standard computer applications.
Ability for checking and detecting errors in dispensing of medications.
