Job description

The OVID Inspector is responsible for conducting vessel inspections in accordance with the Offshore Vessel Inspection Database (OVID) framework established by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF). This role ensures that offshore support vessels, barges, and marine assets operating within the organizations projects comply with OCIMF, industry, and regulatory safety standards. The OVID Inspector plays a key role in marine assurance, safety compliance, and operational integrity within offshore operations, contributing to safe and reliable marine support for fabrication, installation, and heavy engineering activities.

Description
  • Conduct OVID inspections for offshore and support vessels in line with OCIMF standards and internal marine assurance requirements.
  • Evaluate vessel compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and applicable Flag State and Port State regulations.
  • Assess vessel condition, onboard operations, safety systems, and crew competence.
  • Verify validity of statutory and class certificates, safety documentation, and operational manuals.
  • Liaise with vessel Masters, Chief Engineers, and operators to ensure compliance with OCIMF and company best practices.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive OVID reports via the OCIMF OVID platform within required timeframes.
  • Provide feedback and corrective action recommendations to vessel owners and internal stakeholders.
  • Support the organizations Marine Assurance Program through participation in internal audits, vessel selection reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Stay updated on OCIMF OVID revisions, SIRE 2.0 developments, and relevant maritime regulatory changes.
  • Promote a strong HSE and quality culture across all marine operations.
Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or a related maritime discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in the maritime or offshore oil & gas industry, including at least 5 years in a senior marine position (e.g., Master Mariner, Chief Engineer, or Marine Superintendent).
  • Valid OCIMF OVID Inspector Accreditation.
  • Valid OVID Inspector Accreditation (OCIMF).
  • Valid Offshore Medical Certificate (e.g., OGUK or equivalent).
  • Valid BOSIET / HUET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training).
  • STCW basic and advanced safety training (as applicable).
  • Strong understanding of offshore vessel operations, marine safety, and vessel assurance principles.
  • Solid knowledge of OCIMF guidelines, IMO conventions, Flag State, and Classification Society requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in using digital inspection and reporting tools.
  • Experience with Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessels, heavy-lift barges, or offshore construction support vessels.
  • Knowledge of OVID/SIRE 2.0, TMSA, or similar audit frameworks.
  • Experience working within the Malaysian or regional offshore industry.
