Job summary

A leading automation solutions provider in Penang is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design automated assembly stations. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, practical machine design experience, and proficiency in CAD systems. Responsibilities include creating design outputs, supporting machine build processes, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. This role may require travel and supports collaboration across multiple teams.

Job description
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and detailing of basec automated assembly stations
  • Create mechanical design output for assigned system and stations, including assembly drawings, bills of materials, detail drawings, station descriptions, and I/O designations
  • Participate in internal and customer reviews, as required
  • Estimate and document station cycle times
  • Support the machine build process throughout the purchasing, manufacturing, assembly, and debug phases of the assigned projects by providing design related information
  • With guidance:
    • Be aware of scheduling and budgetary requirements
    • Review design input information (technical specifications, costing, schedule, customer parts, etc.)
    • Review technical budgetary details with the Project Engineer
    • Produce test plans and risk analyses
  • Assist in vendor correspondence and preparation of Request for Quotation
  • Detailing of other parts and assemblies as required
  • Travel may be required
  • Participate in the Company Idea System, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Secondary Tasks
  • Support the development of machine manuals by updating documentation
  • Support Applications Engineering and Sales during the development of quotations and Confirmation of Order
  • Assist in the development of mechanical design standards
  • Support Customer Service and Field Engineering
  • Assist in project Engineers or Engineering Management with projects that further Lanco’s goals
  • Support the training of new employees, both informally and formally if needed
Job Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering of Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electromechanical or equivalent.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of machine design
  • Familiarity with assembly automation and related process
  • Ability to work with 2D & 3D CAD systems (Solid Works), MS Office
  • Basic Understanding of MRP system processs
  • Knowledge of Lanco Standard Components
  • Capable of performing tolerance stck up calculations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of department and company wise ISO procedures
  • Strong communication skills, including the verbal and written
  • Ability to apply Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning
  • Knowledge of basic machining practices
