Job summary

A leading photonics manufacturer in Penang is looking for a Manufacturing Technician/Engineer to perform a variety of assembly operations for optical and laser products. The ideal candidate will have a relevant diploma or degree in engineering and at least 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly with photonics systems. Responsibilities include developing test protocols, troubleshooting, and ensuring production quality. This role also demands strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work within cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting automation machines and reading electrical drawings.
  • Experience working on optical and laser-related products is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop methods and test protocols for fiber laser and optical/laser products.
  • Coordinate the release of engineering changes or new products.
  • Perform testing, fault diagnosis and troubleshooting functions on lasers.

Skills

Job description
Manufacturing Technician/Engineer (Bayan Lepas)

Performs a wide variety of optical, electronic or electro-mechanical, mechanical or measurement product assembly operations on assemblies or sub-assemblies.

Determines and or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component cleaning & installation, hand soldering and fitting on assembly units.

Perform mechanical and optical alignment for laser tuning.

Conduct product performance testing such as functional, leakage, laser performance and other related testing processes.

Conduct electrical testing / trouble shooting.

Recommend process improvement plan

Education & Experience

Possess at least a Diploma in Engineering or its equivalents with 2 years or more relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.

Possess experience in troubleshooting automation machine and can read electrical drawings / schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical orders.

Follow, comply, and ensure good housekeeping and safety in factory.

Experience working on microscope is an added advantage.

Experience working on optical and laser related products is an added advantage.

Are open to work beyond working hours when the production volume is high.

Manufacturing Engineer
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and test protocol in the manufacture of fiber laser, laser related products, including optical/laser alignment & test procedures.
  2. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of engineering change or new products or provides improvement proposal for product, process or testing.
  3. Involves laser set-up using sophisticated optical techniques and laser calibration using electronic control.
  4. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  5. Work from laser schematics and electrical diagram, written, and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, fault diagnosis and trouble-shooting functions.
  6. Lead all failure analysis events to determine root cause. Provide in-depth evaluation & analysis of situations and data. Develop and implement effective corrective actions.
  7. Work with cross-function teams to achieve, laser related development solutions, product & process cost reductions as well as value engineering programs.
  8. Provide technical leadership. Lead engineering efforts in product/technology transfers.
  9. Lead technical improvement projects and support laser-related manufacturing to create a continuous improvement culture.
Education & Experience
  1. At least a bachelor's degree in photonic/electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in photonics devices or system-related field.
  3. Skilled in laser system, optics, photonics components is a plus.
  4. Basic programming (LabView/Mathlab) skill as an advantage.
  5. Electronic knowledge in Printed Circuit Board Assembly, software programming and application will be advantage.
  6. Possess good interpersonal, analytical, communication skills and a good team player.
  7. Must possess excellent structured problem-solving skills.
