The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is seeking a globally minded and experienced Manager, Student Recruitment (Local) and Manager, Student Recruitment (International) to support the Director in implementing the University's recruitment strategy across domestic and international markets.

The Manager, Student Recruitment (Local) is responsible for leading and delivering student recruitment activities across Malaysia. The role will focus on building strong pipelines from schools, agents, and direct channels to ensure enrolment growth, while actively strengthening the university’s visibility in the domestic market. This role also ensures a seamless student journey in collaboration with admissions, marketing, and academic colleagues.

The Manager, Student Recruitment (International) is responsible for leading recruitment strategies and activities across key international markets. The role focuses on building pipelines through agent networks, schools, and partnerships, while driving brand visibility in competitive overseas markets. The Manager plays a crucial role in achieving international enrolment targets, working closely with the marketing, admissions, and conversion teams to ensure seamless student experiences across the full recruitment journey.

Key Responsibilities (Local)
  • Recruitment Strategy & Execution (Local)
    • Develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies for Malaysian markets.
    • Strengthen pipelines from local schools, colleges, and feeder institutions.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with school counsellors, principals, and parent communities.
    • Manage agent relationships within Malaysia, ensuring compliance, productivity, and yield.
    • Lead participation in local education fairs, open days, and roadshows.
  • Student Journey & Conversion
    • Collaborate with admissions and conversion teams to improve the enquiry-to-enrolment pipeline.
    • Monitor local applicant data, identify trends, and recommend interventions to boost conversion.
    • Support the development of offer-holder engagement activities for Malaysian students.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with academics to deliver talks, workshops, and outreach programmes in schools.
    • Partner with government bodies, NGOs, and scholarship providers to expand student access.
    • Ensure alignment with national education priorities and branding strategies.
  • Reporting & Insights
    • Track performance of all local recruitment activities against enrolment targets.
    • Provide monthly reports on applications, offers, and acceptances from Malaysia.
    • Share insights on competitor activity and market shifts.
Key Responsibilities (International)
  • Recruitment Strategy & Execution (International)
    • Develop market‑specific recruitment strategies for priority regions (e.g., Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Africa).
    • Build and manage strong partnerships with international recruitment agents, sub‑agents, and counsellors.
    • Identify and cultivate relationships with international schools and feeder institutions abroad.
    • Represent the university at overseas recruitment fairs, school visits, and agent events.
    • Coordinate with global partners, embassies, and cultural missions to expand brand presence.
  • Student Journey & Conversion
    • Work closely with the conversion team to manage offer‑holder engagement and pre‑arrival support.
    • Monitor applicant trends by country/programme and develop interventions to improve yield.
    • Provide recruitment counselling and guidance for international prospects and families.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partner with academics to deliver subject‑specific outreach (lectures, webinars, masterclasses) for international students.
    • Liaise with government scholarship bodies internationally.
    • Ensure compliance with visa, regulatory, and admissions requirements for international students.
  • Reporting & Insights
    • Provide regular reports on applications, offers, acceptances, and enrolments by market.
    • Track competitor activities and provide recommendations for market positioning.
    • Use CRM data to monitor agent performance, conversion rates, and ROI of international recruitment activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Manager, Student Recruitment (Local)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Education, Business, or related field.
    • More than 5 years’ experience in higher education recruitment or marketing.
    • Proven success in building strong local student pipelines and relationships with schools.
    • Knowledge of Malaysia’s education system and student behaviour.
    • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
    • Data‑driven and results‑oriented.
  • Manager, Student Recruitment (International)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, International Relations, or related field.
    • 5–8 years’ experience in international student recruitment.
    • Strong network of international agents, schools, and partners.
    • Familiarity with visa processes, international student mobility trends, and cultural nuances.
    • Excellent interpersonal and cross‑cultural communication skills. Experience with CRM systems for student recruitment.
    • Strong school engagement and relationship building.
    • Student‑focused with strong customer service orientation.
    • Data‑driven, analytical, and organised.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Cross‑cultural awareness and adaptability.
    • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
    • Ability to travel frequently across regions.
    • Results‑oriented, with strong focus on enrolment outcomes.
