A leading utility company's legal department is seeking a Legal Manager to lead and manage debt recovery processes. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) with 8–10 years of relevant experience, strong negotiation, and analytical skills. Responsibilities include supervising a legal team, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborating with external stakeholders. The role requires excellent command of Bahasa Malaysia and English, along with proficiency in legal research tools.
Lead and manage legal processes for debt recovery, including litigation and settlements.
Oversee enforcement actions such as garnishments, seizures, and court orders.
Supervise a team and ensure efficient case management and conduct regular performance reviews.
Manage the selection of legal service providers including tender documentation and contracts as to ensure high level of service delivery are provided.
Provide legal advice and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with external counsel, enforcement agencies, and internal stakeholders to enhance team’s ability to recover debts.
Monitor instalment plans and ensure timely payments.
Prepare and present legal reports to management.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) and qualified as an advocate and solicitor with a valid and current practicing certificate.
Minimum 8–10 years of legal experience, preferably in utilities or regulated industries, with a proven track record in litigation and contract management.
Strong understanding of contract law, corporate law and environmental regulations.
Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Good command of both written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English.
Proficiency in legal research tools, Microsoft Office, and data analytics is an advantage
