Job summary

A renewable energy solutions company in Johor is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to lead design and construction activities for renewable energy projects. The role involves ensuring compliance with engineering standards, managing project timelines, and maintaining quality assurance. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience. This position requires site-based work and a strong understanding of local authority processes.

Job description
1. JOB PURPOSE

To be responsible and accountable for providing and managing the civil and structural technical inputs in renewable energy project portfolios from design development, procurement, project implementation, completion and handover.

2. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY RESULT AREA
1) Engineering & Design Management
  • Lead and review civil and structural design deliverables including site grading, earthworks, erosion and sediment control (ESCP), piling/foundation design, access roads, drainage, water reticulation, sewage, geotechnical, fencing, substation/transformer foundations, and buildings.
  • Coordinate design and construction interfaces between C&S works and other disciplines including but not limited to electrical, mechanical.
  • Ensure compliance with national codes, IEC/IEEE standards (where applicable), and utility/authority requirements.
2) Construction Oversight
  • Manage and supervise C&S construction activities on-site including earthworks, erosion and sediment control (ESCP), piling, trenching, structural works, roads, drainage, water reticulation, sewerage, fencing, geotechnical, substation/transformer foundations, and buildings, structural steel installations and all others civil and structural related works.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with IFC drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality plans.
  • Review and approve construction shop drawings, method statements, ITPs, and material submissions.
3) Project Management & Coordination
  • Work closely with EPC contractors, design consultants, owner’s engineers and internal project teams.
  • Manage project timelines, milestones, and interfaces for C&S scope.
  • Ensure materials and equipment comply with specifications and standards.
  • Liaising with authorities.
4) Quality, HSE, and Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC requirements including inspections, tests, and commissioning.
  • Support HSE teams in implementing safe construction practices for earthworks, working‑at‑height, and lifting operations.
  • Prepare progress reports, technical assessments, and risk updates for management.

5) To assist the project manager in reviewing the technical specifications, drawings, and design reports related to civil and structural works for renewable energy portfolios. To perform due‑diligence, risk assessment analysis, and identifying the potential technical challenges and opportunities that could impact the successful execution of transactions. Concurrently, to adopt value engineering method during the assessment for the cost‑benefit analysis.

6) To assist the project manager in providing civil and structural technical support on multiple projects, ensuring work quality is maintained at the expected standard, statutory law and authority requirement. To ensure the construction engineering and deliverables within the project cost and timeline.

7) To assist the project manager in liaising with the stakeholders (internal and external project teams), monitoring and managing the technical deliverables programme including to respond on technical queries to be in line with the scope of work and project schedule.

8) To assist the project manager in liaising with the respective authorities when it is required.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Formal Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred or commensurate level of experience/ achievements (with minimum 7 years’ experience in related field)
