Project: 84MW Kelantan Small Hydropower Project

Position: Manager, Electrical (Transmission Line)

Location: Project Site – Kelantan, Malaysia

Reporting To: Project Director

Job Purpose

The Manager, Electrical will be responsible for overseeing and managing all electrical installation works for the 84MW Kelantan Small Hydropower Project. This includes ensuring that transmission line installation, maintenance, and commissioning meet the required technical specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. The individual will collaborate closely with the project team, contractors, consultants, and suppliers to guarantee that the electrical works are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage electrical installation activities on site, ensuring the proper execution of transmission line works from start to finish.
  • Transmission Line Oversight: Monitor the planning, design, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical transmission lines to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular monitoring to ensure electrical works (including transmission lines) meet the highest standards of quality and safety, and address non-conformances promptly.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Project Management Consultant (PMC), contractors, and engineering teams to coordinate the activities of electrical installations and ensure proper integration with other project components.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical expertise on electrical issues, offering solutions to challenges in design, installation, or operation, particularly related to transmission line systems.
  • Documentation: Review and approve electrical drawings, installation plans, and operational procedures, ensuring that they align with the project’s electrical design.
  • Compliance & Regulations: Ensure all work complies with local and international electrical standards, including safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Health and Safety: Promote a culture of safety on site and ensure electrical works are performed in accordance with established health and safety procedures.
  • Progress Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Project Director on the progress of electrical installations, issues, and any delays or challenges encountered.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and manage electrical engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, ensuring that work is performed efficiently and effectively.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on transmission lines, electrical systems, plants and hydropower projects.
  • Transmission Line Experience: Proven experience in managing and overseeing the construction, maintenance, and commissioning of high-voltage transmission lines (preferred).
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of electrical systems, transmission lines, and hydropower plants. Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and practices.
  • Project Management: Previous experience in managing large-scale electrical projects, including budget management, resource allocation, and scheduling.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in supervising contractors, engineers, and site teams.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including contractors, suppliers, and senior management.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially related to electrical system design and troubleshooting.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in electrical, project management, or specific to the energy sector are advantageous.
